Chapter 15

Jennie: But why are we here?

Steve: You'll see. Now hold my hand and don't be scared ok?

Jennie: Ok...

We entered the hospital. It was everything dark in there. I was holding Steve's hand. I saw many old things and systems there. I saw fallen chairs, broken computers, beds... It was like the hospital was so alive many years ago, but something suddenly  happened and couldn't continue their progress. After a few minutes, we entered in a room where it seemed preety clean, lighter and everything there, was tidy.

Jennie: What is it in here?

Steve: It's the place we are gonna live for a while. I have prepared everything in here.

Jennie: But why?

Steve: The world out there is very dangerous. As your bodyguard I must protect you. And also, let you know the truth. Sit down and you will learn everything.

I stayed silent. I sat down and waited for him to go on.

Steve: First and foremost, I am a werewolf too. You have learnt so much recently and I don't want you to freak you out more...

Jennie: Just tell me. I need to know everything. But first, you have to promise me that everything you will say it's true and not a prank.

He raised his eyebrows, looked at me and nodded. He cleared his throat and he started explaining.

Steve: I don't know how to explain it... Well, you and me are very close relatives... We are siblings, you know...

I could clearly see the curiosity in his eyes for how I was gonna react. I just looked at him quietly. Then, my voice broke the silence.

Jennie: How do you know that?

He immidiately looked at me and chuckled by my question.

Jennie: What's the funny with this?

Steve: It is a very long story... I'll try to make it short. You already know that you don't belong to the vampire family. When you were born, our parents asked me to take care of you whatever happens to us. The family that adopted you is a criminal family. They have harmed demon families, mermaid families and etc. As Leo has told you a few days before, his family hates werewolves. Vampires hate werewolves so much that they want to make them suffer until they leave on the earth their last breath. Vampires are the most harmful beings on the earth. You can't trust them easily. So, when I was 5 years old, I learnt that our mother was giving birth to you. And that's the hospital where she gave birth to you. When you   were born, after 5 minutes the lights went off. The doctors started calming down the patients. Then, a dark family entered the hospital and it was the vampire family. Leo was 4 and he was also there. They started killing people with no reason. Our family ran away. The vampire family caught us running and they stopped us. After a while they killed our... Parents...

My eyes widened in surprise when I heard about killing our parents.

Steve: I ran away with you in my arms. They stopped me, took you away and they let me leave. I started panicking and crying. After a lot of years, I found a friend who hasn't got a name. He had found you in the forest. I told him to follow you and protect you. When, you came back in town I could finally find you and protect you.

I stayed silent for a moment. Then, I could finally say a word.

Jennie: I don't know what to say. My family killed... Our family?

Steve: I am very sorry for making you feel like that. I swear to god that everything I said is true!

Jennie: And your friend was Bill?

Steve: Did you name him?

Jennie: Yes...

Steve came closer to me and put his arm around my shoulder offering me a hug. I couldn't distract myself from thinking about all this. Whether I liked it or not I had to accept my fate. Suddenly, I could feel that we weren't alone in this hospital. I immediately looked at Steve concerned.

Jennie: Can you feel the footsteps?

Steve looked back at me nodding. He held my hand and we both stood up and opened the door. We went out to check. Everything there was dark and I could still feel those footsteps. My heart was racing in my chest. The hallway was empty but we had to check the other side of it. We were about to take the right turn but then I saw Leo. I gasped.

Jennie: Leo?

I ran towards him and hugged him with tears in my eyes. Then I looked up at him.

Leo: Oh Jennie. Why did you leave? And who's this?

His eyes looked at Steve curious. He pulled me behind him.

Leo: Who are you? Why are you with her?

A smirk appeared on Steve's lips. Then he spoke up.

Steve: I am her brother.

Leo looked back at me confused. Then, he let me away from his hug. I nodded in agreement with Steve. Leo seemed shocked.

Leo: Are you... Are you this kid? From back then?

Steve: Yes, that's me. And now I am here to protect her from you and your whole family.

Steve pulled me closer to him. He looked at Leo with an angry face.

Steve: And now I am gonna take revenge about what you did to my family. Our family!

Steve jumped on Leo and attacked him. I was just watching. I couldn't make any move. I was completely froze. Steve and Leo were fighting over me. I had to do something. Then, I went between them and separated them. I looked at both of them anxious.

Jennie: I think this should stop right now. Past is in the past. Nothing can change, you know.

Steve looked at me strangely and Leo either. I didn't want to be present in front of a fight.

Jennie: I think you should become friends.

And I smiled awkwardly. I hadn't time for fights and we were already in danger.

Leo: Jennie, you don't understand...

Jennie: The opposite. You both don't understand that our lives are in danger.

They glanced at each other and looked back at me. They nodded and we all entered in the small room in the hospital.
