Change of POV
A loud percussive bang and the screeching of tires shattered the calm in the tour bus. At first, I braced myself thinking our tour bus was what made the noise. I swiftly realized that wasn't the case and glanced behind us where the noise was most audible. The charter bus holding most of Destin's pack was weaving and screeching to a stop narrowly avoiding the cliff's edge of this mountain pass. I would have assumed a blown tire, if there wasn't smoke and fire coming off the back of it. If the flames weren't put out soon, the bus would only fuel it into a raging inferno.
"Stop the bus!" I shouted. I held myself to the red couch until Jimmy had fully stopped. I then walked quickly towards the front, but June grasped my arm with wide eyes.
"What happened? Are we under attack? Is anyone hurt?" She shot out frantically.
I placed my hand on hers and leaned down to be at eye level with her. "I don't know. It looks like something happened to the charter bus. I need to go help put the flames out or evacuate the bus right now. Destin, you should come too." I said.
Destin nodded and raced his way out of the bus. June started to go after him, but I held her firmly in place.
"I should go help. I'm their luna." June asserted.
"No, you should stay here. We don't know what exactly happened, and your pack would want you safe. Stay with Balto. Jimmy come with me." I said as I sat June back down. Her eyes looked around concerned and she bit her lip as if thinking my request over. "I mean it, June." I reiterated firmly.
She finally bowed her head and gripped her hands over her thighs. "Just be careful..." she muttered.
So she did listen at times. I sighed relieved and nodded before exiting the bus with Jimmy. Once we disembarked, Lannister was already by the door looking alert and hyper focused. Their bus had also come to a stop about a hundred feet after ours. Keith was close behind Lannister.
"What happened? Is she okay?" He asked. I guess those were the only two questions that mattered.
"Something happened to the rear bus. I'm going with Jimmy to help Destin and his pack put out the fire and evacuate. We'll figure out what happened after the danger is gone. June's staying inside with that werewolf of hers. She'll probably feel better if you were with her." I informed quickly.
Lannister's golden eyes darted to mine and his white brow raised in surprise. "You're letting me protect her? I would think you would fight for that honor." He said.
I narrowed my eyes. "Vampires are not all greedy self-centered creatures, despite what you and your kind think. It is rational that the strongest and most resilient creatures deal with the immediate threat, and that the softer ones hold back and keep the fort. It's merely strategy." I explained.
Lannister narrowed his eyes at the 'softer' comment, but rushed into the bus to see to June without another word. After instructing Keith to stay with the front bus and keep an eye on things, Jimmy and I ran in to join the chaos of the burning vehicle. Half of the bus was already emptied by the time we got there. Destin's pack was a well-oiled machine. Without much direction they had divided into three forces. The injured took their time and helped each other get out of harms way and out of the way of their pack mates. The rest divided into evacuation assistance or fire squelching. The team that was putting out fires were mostly in their bestial forms digging aggressively into the dirt road to either directly kick sand over the fire or create large piles for others to grab with t-shirts, bags, or whatever they had to throw on the fire. Those that remained bipedal, including Destin, held fire extinguishers against the blaze.
