Chapter III: Defection

(Adler POV)

I went to the testing range to test the explosive capacity of these shells, which was quite a lot. Because I can freely upgrade my ship, I wanted to have some fun. I replaced some of the HE shells with Nuclear Warhead shells. This will do considerable damage. When I was done with the upgrades, I went back to Onee-chan's room.

Sometime later…

When I entered the room, I could see Unicorn studying something with Friedrich. Wonder what she's learning? Oh well.

Adler: “You seem to be studying quite seriously”
           Unicorn: “I'm studying German!”

This took me a while to digest.

Adler: “Why though? You don't have to?”
           Unicorn: “So I don't stand out as much and can communicate with you easier”
Adler: (sigh) “Alright then”

I watched on as Unicorn continued to learn German. I decided to walk over to a window to see the sea. It was magnificent. As I indulge in the beauties of the sea, someone taps my shoulder. It was Unicorn of course.

Unicorn: “Hey… I want to ask, do you wanna go out again?”
           Adler: “Why wouldn't I? Come on, let's go!”
Friedrich: “Take care, you two!”
           Adler: “We will!”

I put a smile on my face. We went to a small ice cream store near the harbor. After we bought ice cream, we went and sat down in a place near Unicorn's ship. While I was licking my ice cream, I asked Unicorn something.

Adler: “Hey Unicorn, mind if I upgrade your planes?”
          Unicorn: “How so?”

Adler: “Hmm… I'll just change them”
          Unicorn: “That's okay”
Adler: “Thank you”

I teleported myself onto Unicorn’s ship. There lay several German planes, which were recently changed from British planes. I changed them to Rafale M(s) and NGF(s). I made the necessary upgrades and modifications to accommodate the new planes. After the upgrades were done, I teleported back near Unicorn.

Adler: “Well, I'm done. I also upgraded your ship to accommodate the new planes. You okay with that?”
           Unicorn: “It's okay”

I smiled at her, she smiled back. After I was done with my ice cream I sat down beside Unicorn.

Unicorn: “Hey Adler…”
           Adler: “Yes?”
Unicorn: “Thank you for treating me well”
         
I looked at Unicorn with a smile.

Adler: “What, you think I wouldn't?” I said in a sarcastic tone.
           Unicorn: “When I first met you, I didn't “
Adler: “Well then I guess I exceeded your expectations ;P”
           Unicorn: “Jeez…”

Unicorn chuckled a bit, I did too. We both had a good time chatting and having fun by the docks. We wanted to go back to Friedrch's room but Nimi (Z23) told us that Bismarck had called me, and Unicorn for some reason, to the briefing room. AKA there was going to be a mission of some kind. When we reached there, we could see several other Iron Blood ships, not including Friedrich for some reason.

Bismarck: “You're finally here”
            Adler: “What's this meeting all about? And why does Unicorn need to be here?”
Bismarck: “I'll explain the former now, for the latter… I will explain it later on”
            Adler: “Hmm… Alright then”
Bismarck: “Okay then. We got information from some recon that an Azur Lane fleet is mobilizing to our borders. Specifically, the Royal Navy. The attacking forces consist of King George V, Illustrious, Belfast, Sheffield, Formidable, Hood, and Prince of Wales. Totaling 7, it's quite a lot to handle.  Now the reason why I wanted Unicorn here. Adler told me about your situation, and I am wondering if… do you still want to stay here?”
             Unicorn: “Yes, I do”
Bismarck: “Well then, that's settled. Scharnhorst, Gneisenau, Adler, and Nimi will be the only ones going on this mission. Friedrich is busy and we can't spare anybody else. I'm sure that you can handle it, Adler. The mission is in an hour. Does anybody have any questions?”
            Unicorn: “Yes… I do have one”
Bismarck: “What's your question?”
            Unicorn: “May I come with them?”
Bismarck: “But I thought you didn't want to go back to Azur Lane?”
            Unicorn: “I still don't, I just want to see Illustrious and Javelin again”
Bismarck: “But if you're joining the battle, are you sure you're able to hurt your friends?”
            Unicorn: “That's why I will only shoot down the planes. I'm sure they won't mind”
Bismarck: “Hmmm… Okay then. The meeting is adjourned”
