prologue
"I really think this whole 'King' thing has gone to your head," Amber said, jumping onto her bed, where Ben sat.
"What do you mean? I think it's a perfectly good idea," Ben objected, getting off her bed and walking over to the fireplace in her room where she had pictures of the two of them and her family on its ledge.
She and Ben had been friends since they were little, staying friends through everything, Amber's first crush, and Ben's first date with Audrey (even though Amber wasn't too fond of her).
"Bringing the children of the evilest villains to Auradon is a pretty big thing, Ben, like majorly insane!"
"I know, I know, but I just feel like if they were given a second chance they cou-" Ben began, his voice trailing off.
"Redeem themselves?" Amber finished, thinking about what Ben had just proposed. "I mean, it wouldn't be the worst idea..."
"Exactly!" Ben said, taking her tentative liking to the idea as a win.
"I mean, it would be a hell of a way to step into your king-hood or whatever," Amber joked, turning the idea over in her head. "Who were you thinking of bringing over?"
Without hesitation, Ben said "daughters of Malificent and the Evil Queen and sons of Jeffar and Cruella de Vil."
"Oh wow, you're goin' all in with Malificent's daughter, I like it! I'm excited to meet them when they arrive!"
"So," Ben asked, "you think my parents will approve?"
"I mean yeah, they kinda have to," Amber answered, a smile growing on her face, "you're soon to be the king."
