"Turn around sweetie," Evie instructed Amber, who had her back to Evie as she looked at her hair in the mirror. Evie, ruffling through her makeup bag to find the right blush, gently guided Amber to a seat where she could continue working on her face.

Amber was getting ready for a televised interview that would be with Ben, who was now king and Mal, who was soon to become a lady of his court. It had been 6 months since the decision to invite four VKs into Auradon and now, with Malificent turned to a lizard and Mal, Evie, Carlos, and Jay not set on destroying Auradon; opening it up to the Isle—everything was back to its princess-perfect ways.

Amber had gotten really close with the four VKs, especially Evie and Mal.

And now, with Mal and Ben happily dating, and Mal about to become a lady of the court, everything seemed fantastic.

As Evie blended in the light pink shade on Amber's upper cheekbones, Amber mentally prepared herself for the interview. She knew she'd be asked her thoughts on Mal becoming a lady of the court, and maybe even what she thought of Ben and Mal as a couple. She wished people could just mind their own fucking business and leave her out of this type of stuff, but alas. As Ben's best friend as well as Mal and Evie's, people thought her opinions mattered.

"What's wrong, love?" Evie asked, seeing the annoyance on Amber's face.

"Oh nothing, I just wish that I could be kept out of all the publicity that Ben and Mal are getting. Everyone acts like the three of us are in a relationship, not just Ben and Mal."

Laughing, Evie smoothed Amber's hair, comfortingly, bringing Amber over to the mirror once more so that they could admire Evie's work.

Amber looked stunning—which was no surprise, she won the jackpot when it came to family genes, Repunzel and Flynn were both stunning.

"Wow," Amber breathed out, turning and giving Evie a huge hug. "You are truly a wizard when it comes to this stuff. This dress? This makeup? I don't know how you do it!"

Blushing, Evie brushed away the compliments, "it's easy when I have someone with your looks to work with."

"I should get going," Amber said, giving Evie a final hug and kissing the girl on the cheek, "Ben will be mad if I'm late to an interview again."

"Go get em'," Evie laughed, waving goodbye to her friend as the daughter of Repunzel flitted out of the dorm.

"And here we are!" The interviewer announced to the camera, "joined today by King Ben, Lady-to be, Mal, and Daughter of Repunzel, Ben's childhood best friend, Amber!"

"Hello Auradon!" Ben said in his 'King Voice' as Amber called it. It wasn't his regular voice, it was his public speaking snooty voice Amber noticed he used to make him sound in charge more 'manly'.

"We are going to start with a few simple questions that everyone is dying to know!" the interviewer, continued, turning her attention to Mal. "Mal, the ceremony for you to become one of the ladies of the court is coming up, what are your thoughts about that? Any nerves, any excitement?"

"Well," Mal began, and Amber could tell this want going to end well. Mal's voice was a bit shaky and she could tell the poor girl was nervous to be on live TV. "I'm obviously, excited to become a lady of the- of the-," shit.

Amber moved her knee so it was touching Mal's, letting her know she was there for her. "Of the court," Mal continued, giving Amber an appreciative glance. "I think it will be a welcome change and I'm so honored to become a lady of Ben's court!"

"That's just wonderful to hear!" The interviewer continued, now focusing on Amber. "Now, Amber, what are your thoughts on Mal's entry into the court?"

"Well, I'm very proud of her," Amber began, smiling at Mal. "I think she has come a long way from when we met and I think she will be amazing!"

"Thanks," Mall whispers to Amber, just loud enough that Amber can hear her, but the viewers at home can't.

"Now, King Ben, we have a ton of questions for you..."

And that was when Amber stopped paying attention. She had mastered how to make her zoning out look like she was fully attentive.

☀️☀️☀️

Back in the dorms, Mal slouched on Amber's bed. Amber, who was sitting at her desk, working on a poem, sat quietly working.

"Amb?" Mal brought Amber's attention away from her writing.

"What's up, M?"

"I'm a mess" Mal groaned. I don't know how to act in front of the public! They expect so much of me and I can barely string together a full sentence without making a fool of myself."

"I'm not going to be one of those friends who act as if you never mess up or make a mistake," Amber began, "yes, there are times where you stumble over your words a little, but the more you get used to public speaking, the easier it will be. Take it from me, my amazingness didn't come overnight, I had to work for it. But hey, the second you get tired of it all, let me know and I'll be there for you, no matter what."

"Thanks Amb," Mal smiled, this is why she was friends with this Amber. Amber was honest and kind, someone who wasn't going to sugar-coat things, but always had a comforting thing to say.

"Of course, I love you Mal, I'll always be here for you, no matter what."
