MIKEY

GRANDMA CHIYO died two days later.

Many people had gathered at her funeral to honor the deceased. Most of them were her relatives and old friends, including all the employees from the cafe shop she owned. Even Takemitchy and his family attended after they heard the devastating news. Keiko was also there along with some of the members of the Student Council. They were all mourning over the old woman's passing. I could tell from everyone's actions that Grandma Chiyo was a beloved figure and adored by many.

Emma and I joined Grandpa in paying his respects to his dear friend. Turning my head to my side, I saw Y/N sitting quietly in the corner and dressed in traditional funeral clothing. She looked so exhausted and lifeless, her (e/c) eyes had lost their spark. She was neither grieving nor shedding any tears for her late grandmother.

I'd never seen her cry once, even when Grandma Chiyo was declared dead in the ICU two days after the accident. Within those days, Y/N never left her grandmother's side and stayed in the hospital to watch over her through the glass windows. She would only go home to take a bath and change clothes before returning to the hospital again to look after her. She also barely slept and ate her meals less if it weren't for my persuasions.

I couldn't imagine the pain and grief Y/N had been going through after losing someone dear to her. I wanted to reach out and comfort her, but I didn't know how to approach her in such a delicate moment.

After Grandma Chiyo's burial, I watched Y/N bowing her head and expressing gratitude to everyone for attending the funeral, some of them offering their sympathy for her. Keiko and one of the employees at the cafe approached her for a hug while sobbing. Takemitchy also came to hug her too.

"I-I'm so sorry, Y/N. I'm truly sorry," he cried out in large tears, his shoulders shaking. He sounded as if he was blaming himself over something he wasn't even part of, not offering his condolences to her.

Y/N shook her head lightly and patted him on the back. "It's okay, Michi. It's okay."

Y/N was composed and polite, but I could see the underlying sadness in her eyes. Some of her relatives attempted to get on her good graces and wanted to adopt her in hopes of benefitting from the large inheritance she would receive from her late father. However, Y/N graciously turned them down, already aware of their ulterior motives beforehand, and did not bother to waste her time on their schemes.

The only relative who didn't seem to have any ill intentions was Grandma Chiyo's youngest daughter who was also Y/N's aunt. Both she and her husband were kind people and wished to bring her to Okinawa where their family lived. The couple wanted to take care of her as their own and help her move forward.
