Familiar Mention

I raise a brow as Arlan approaches me with a proud expression plastered all over his face. 'Okay now I just feel a little bad for those guards.. He looks like he enjoyed himself a bit too much..'

"Well, you won't have to worry about any of them bothering you anymore!" Arlan has a huge grin on his face, which from how much I know about him, it seems off.. Or maybe just terrifying? He's watching me as I move out of my hiding spot, just looking absolutely proud of himself.

"Oh, I can tell they won't even try to come near me.." I stifle a laugh as I walk up to him. "Seems like you enjoyed yourself? Unless I'm just reading that completely wrong?"

I can't help myself from laughing once I see Arlan starting to panic, his eyes widening while he shook his hands everywhere as he tried to speak. Wiping the tears of laughter from eyes, all I'm able to do is stay quiet to stop more laughs from escaping me.

"What- No no!! I'm not that kind of person! It's just my job, since they were harassing you.." I let out another small laugh as I watched as Arlan covered his hands in his face out of embarrassment.

"Geez.. You're making me out to be some kind of sadist.." He mumbled from under his hands, which only fueled my laughter.

I control my laughter before walking right past him. "That's not what I was trying to imply.. But if that's what you're taking from it, ..then I wonder what that could mean."

Arlan quickly removes his hands from his face and spins around to follow me as I walk. He remains quiet as he walks by my side, but I can see his embarrassed pout from the corner of my eye. It's genuinely taking everything in me to not start laughing again.. But I guess I could save him from any further embarrassment and jokes at his expense.

I glance over at Arlan as we walk. "It's starting to get late you know.. Don't you have to get back to your room?"

'It's not like I'm TRYING to get him away from me! It's more like I don't want to be seen falling asleep in my office.. Besides I need to catch up on those blueprints and really start getting to work- Gosh, I forgot to order all the parts I need too..'

Arlan just shrugs and continues to look forward, not giving me a single glance. "I have patrol tonight, so I'll just walk with you to your room."

'Boss.. Please get the hint!!'

"You have patrol? Then don't you have to get to your station soon? Seeing how you just lectured those guards, don't you think they'd be pretty upset if you didn't show up on time.." I mumbled as I looked over at him. I really don't want to make it too obvious that I'm trying to shake him off but I also really don't want him to see me sleeping in my office.. That would be too much embarrassment for me today.

Arlan suddenly stopped walking, leaving me to pause as well before turning to him. He had a sheepish expression on his face. "Ah- You're probably right.. I should get going then, apologies."

"I'll walk you to your room another night, I'm going now, goodbye." I stood still in my spot as he bid me farewell, walking into the far distance. His farewell swirling in my head.

'ANOTHER NIGHT?? It's a kind offer but please don't! I really don't want to get caught falling asleep on top of all my blueprints..'

I sighed as I sulked and started to walk back to my office, already starting a mental checklist of everything that I needed to finish before I ended up falling asleep. After everything I did finish so far, I still have at least 50 more devices to work on. That's not including the 3 more large scale devices.

'Now that I really think about it, with the rate things are going at right now.. It's gonna take me at least a year to finish all of this! That really won't do... I wonder if I could try to cram all of these projects and finish them within 3 months? With then a possibility of finishing the large scale projects within 4 or 5 months- Hopefully within a shorter time frame though..'

Pain swirls in my head, making me grumble as I stop thinking so hard. "This is my first time working in an actual workplace environment- Not to mention the amount of work.."

I shake my complaints away and sigh. I continued to walk around in what felt like a daze to me. My mind was completely clouded with my own thoughts swirling around, each one popping up and then getting completely overridden with a new one. I bite my lip as I get lost in a maze of my own thoughts.

'This is ridiculous. I need to get a hold of myself- honestly! What's important is.. Remembering why I need to work hard.'

I can feel myself drowning in my own mind- Up until I feel myself bump into something which almost causes me to fall backwards. Grabbing hold of my head I look up in front of me to be greeted with the sight of a taken aback man with dark hair, red eyeliner peeking out at his eyes.

'This is my second time running into someone like this.. And what's worse,'

I take a step back as I look up at the man, embarrassment running through my veins.

'He's so handsome!! Can I even say that? He's MORE than handsome possibly! Gahh.. Bumping into someone like him feels both humiliating and like a blessing for my eyes..!!'

"I'm so sorry! I wasn't paying attention to where I was walking, are you alright?" I ask for forgiveness as I panic.

I watch as the man's eyes examine me, his eyes seem to be stuck somewhere on my face, though I can tell where. After collecting himself it's easy to tell that he seems reserved. "No need to apologize, I wasn't paying any attention myself."

Letting out a sigh of relief I quickly get ready to walk past him, waving goodbye to him. Desperate to escape this embarrassing situation. "I see, I still am sorry though.. Well I'll be going then, have a good night!"

"Wait."

I quickly turn back around and sheepishly look up at him. "Yes?"

"You.. Are you a Vidyadhara?" The man points to his own ears, causing me to touch my own pointy ears.

I carefully look at him, suspicion starting to grow onto me. Removing my hands from my ears I nod in response.

'Now this handsome guy is starting to weird me out.. I mean it's no secret that I'm not human, but this is just so random. What if this handsome dude is someone that dad sent..? That old man knows what kind of things would draw me in.. Though, this is the first time I've been asked something like this since I've arrived here.'

"I am, I'm sorry, who are you?" I take a small step back away from him, caution enveloping me.

He puts up his hands in a defensive manner and proceeds to take a step back towards me. "Sorry, I'm realizing how that just seemed. My name is Dan Heng, I'm with the Astral Express. I really don't mean any ill intent."

'Astral Express? So then he wasn't sent by my father? It would make more sense though, how would that old man have figured out where I've run off to already anyways? Please, he wishes he was smart enough to figure that much out.'

"It's just that I found it strange,"

I raise a brow at Dan Heng. "Strange?"

He stares at me blankly, as if I'm playing him for dumb. "I'm sure you know what I mean. Finding Vidyadhara away from the Luofu like this is rare. Why would you willingly choose to leave?"
