Anita and Benedict were at the next ball. Anita looked over to see Daphne and Simon dancing. She smiled at the couple when she saw Berbrooke looking at the couple. "I do not like Lord Berbrooke. I still can't believe that Anthony even tried to assign a marriage between the two." Benedict looked at Lord Berbrooke then back at Anita. "What did he do for you to not like him." Anita didn't say anything, so Benedict took her hands and said, "You can tell me anything Ani. Please." Anita looked at Benedict and said, "When I learned that Daphne and Simon were courting it was right after I ran after Daphne. Anthony just told Daphne that she was engaged to Berbrooke and so we were talking. Berbooke was behind us and well he manhandled me. Luckily, Daphne was able to help me get him off me." Benedict eyes glared at Berbrooke as Anthony walked over and told Benedict to go dance with Daphne. "Anita go over to your aunt and our mother." Anita was wondering what Anthony was doing but chose to go over to her aunt and Violet. She watched as Benedict and Daphne were dancing. She said Berbrooke, Simon, and Anthony talking which made her wonder why that was.
Benedict went back over to Anita. "What was Anthony and the others talking about?" Benedict looked over and said, "Better not say." Anita nodded. They all headed back to the Bridgerton's.
A few days later. There was a huge family picnic. Benedict and Anita sat on the picnic cloth as Anita's head was on his shoulders. Gregory and Hyacinth were running around and begged Anita to run around with them. Anita agreed and started to chase them around being friendly tagging between the two. Benedict smiled at the sight and his eyes filled with love as he watched his true love playing with his youngest siblings. Violet walked over to his 2nd oldest son. "What are you thinking sweetheart?" Benedict looks up at Hyacinth, Gregory, and Anita playing. Suddenly there was a voice making all the Bridgerton's look over. It was Lord Berbrooke as he walked over with a black eye and some paper. Anita told the kids to go play as she walked over to Benedict. Lord Berbrooke said that he was bringing good news. That is three days' time he and Daphne were to be wedded. Anita walked up to Nigel Berbrooke and said, "Anthony extinguished that days ago."
Violet walked up, giving the idea for them to speak about it in a more private matter. But Nigel was not having it anyway and spoke in a rude tone. "Don't you ever speak to her like that again Nigel Berbrooke." Nigel glared at Anita and said, "You aren't part of the Bridgerton household, so you are not part of this." Benedict had enough of Nigel talking against his family and said, "Anita has been part of our home for a long time Mr. Berbrooke. Now I kindly ask you to speak in a more appropriate manner to my mother and my lady." Nigel looked at Benedict kida scared and said, "No matter. I shall have the Diamond of the Season. Good day to you Bridgerton's, Danbury, Hastings."
Anita was furious about this conversation as the family walked to their carriage still peeved about the situation. "Nigel Berbrooke will not have Daphne. I'll make sure of it." Anita said. Benedict took Anita's hand making her look at him and said, "We all will my love. We all will." Anita smiled softly at Benedict as they continued their ride home.
