Time started ticking loudly, each second echoing through the tense silence. All eyes were fixed on Ryan, their gazes filled with suspicion and doubt. The moment of suspicion intensified, syncing with the rapid beat of Ryan's heart, which pounded louder with every passing second. Overwhelmed by confusion and the weight of their stares, Ryan struggled to gather his thoughts, unable to think straight or make sense of the mounting tension around him.
Officer Lucy arrived at that moment, her sharp eyes quickly assessing the situation. The room was filled with a palpable tension, the ticking of a clock amplifying the unease. She walked over to the lifeless body of Xavier, lying still on the cold floor, and then turned her attention to Ryan, whose presence seemed increasingly suspicious with each passing second.
Ryan stood there, his face a mix of confusion and anxiety, while Emily, Jake, and Agnes watched silently. None of them had called Ryan, yet here he was, right in the midst of the chaos. Officer Lucy's instincts were on high alert.
"Ryan, what are you doing here?" she asked, her tone firm and demanding.
"I... I thought someone called me," Ryan stammered, pulling out his phone again, only to see the same blank call log.
Officer Lucy's eyes narrowed as she studied Ryan, the tension in the room growing thicker with each passing second. "Ryan, I need you to explain—"
Before she could finish her sentence, the unmistakable roar of a car engine revving loudly cut through the tense silence. The sound was distant but growing louder, echoing ominously through the night. The sudden noise startled everyone, drawing their attention away from the lifeless body of Xavier and toward the windows.
"Did anyone else hear that?" Lucy asked, her eyes darting to the door.
David, his face pale with worry, nodded. "Yeah, it sounded like it's coming this way."
Lucy's instincts kicked in. "Everyone stay here," she commanded, her voice steady. "I'll go check it out."
As she turned to leave, she noticed Emily was missing from the group. Panic surged through her veins. "Where's Emily?" she asked, her voice sharp and urgent.
The group looked around, realizing that Emily had indeed disappeared. "She was just here," Jake stammered, his face ashen. "She was right next to me."
Ryan's eyes widened with fear. "Emily!" he shouted, his voice cracking, his face twisted with desperation, snatched his phone from Officer Lucy's hand. "I need to call Emily!" he shouted, his voice trembling with urgency. He fumbled with the phone, his fingers shaking so badly that he nearly dropped it.
"Ryan, what are you doing?" Officer Lucy shouted, her voice sharp with authority. She took a step forward, her eyes narrowing with suspicion.
David, his face flushed with anger, thought Ryan was trying to destroy evidence. His eyes flashed with a mixture of fear and rage. Without a second thought, he lunged at Ryan, his fist connecting solidly with Ryan's gut. The force of the punch sent Ryan sprawling to the ground, gasping for breath.
Chaos erupted in the room. Officer Lucy's men, who had been on high alert, immediately sprang into action. One of them tackled David, pinning him to the floor. "Calm down! What do you think you're doing?" the officer shouted, struggling to restrain David's flailing limbs.
Ryan lay on the ground, clutching his stomach, his breath coming in ragged gasps. He pointed weakly toward the phone he had dropped. "That's... that's Emily's phone," he managed to choke out, his voice filled with a mixture of fear and realization.
Officer Lucy's eyes widened as she processed Ryan's words. She quickly retrieved the phone, her fingers moving deftly as she examined it. Sure enough, the phone's album contains all photos of Emily, confirming Ryan's claim.
