"DAY 8"
The next morning, Lucy began her investigation by carefully reading through the mysterious Part 2 of the book. Each page seemed to deepen the mystery, pulling her into a strange narrative filled with cryptic messages, bizarre connections, and unsettling coincidences. The more she read, the more uneasy she became.
Meanwhile, Clay set out to track down the man who had brought the book to them. After reviewing the surveillance footage, he realized that the man who delivered the book wore a mask, concealing his identity. To Clay's frustration, the masked man seemed to vanish after that — no other cameras in the vicinity captured him, as if he had disappeared into thin air.
Determined not to give up, Clay began to search for the students who were being targeted. But something even more disturbing surfaced: none of the students could be found. They hadn't shown up for classes, and their phones were disconnected. Every lead led to a dead end. It was as if they had vanished just like the masked man, leaving Clay feeling like he was chasing shadows.
Clay radioed Lucy with an update, his voice filled with tension. "Lucy, something's off... it's like these students never existed."
"I knew it!" Lucy said firmly into her radio. "These kids are hiding something. They knew we'd come after them after the riot, so they went low, just like I expected. But they're not out of reach yet."
There was a brief pause before she continued, her voice filled with resolve. "Clay, get back here. There's something we need to find someone, and there's only one guy who can give us the answers."
Clay, hearing the urgency in her voice, responded, "On my way, Lucy. Who are we talking about?" just come here quickly, Lucy said.
Clay entered the room, his frustration evident as he blurted out, "What did you find?"
Lucy, calm but with urgency in her eyes, held up the book. "You gotta read this."
"Oh, Lucy," Clay groaned, pacing around the room. "We don't have time for this! We're wasting time, and that's all the killer needs—time enough to kill them all."
Lucy closed the book, her voice cutting through his panic. "If he wanted to, he would've killed all of them at once, Clay. But he didn't. Think about it. He planted bombs, manipulated situations, but he didn't strike all at once. There's something else going on here."
Clay stopped pacing, looking at her more intently now. "What are you getting at?"
She leaned forward, her voice more controlled now, but intense. "These kids, their minds—they're driving themselves insane. Look at what's happened in the past few days: Deaths, suicide, a riot... accidents that shouldn't have happened, but did. And not just accidents, Clay. Brutal, senseless ways to die. Clay crossed his arms, his skepticism clear. "How is reading this going to help us, Lucy?"
Look, Michael and Caroline's lives changed profoundly after the birth of their son. Their once busy and expansive world narrowed in focus, as their ambitions took a backseat to raising him, but they welcomed this change with open hearts. Every little milestone in their son's life—his first smile, first steps, and his first words—filled their hearts with joy and purpose. The dreams they once had for themselves shifted into dreams for him.
As he grew, it became clear that their son wasn't like most kids his age. While his peers were obsessed with gaming consoles and glued to mobile screens, he found passion in more disciplined pursuits: martial arts and chess. He would spend hours practicing martial arts moves in the backyard or intensely focused over a chessboard, strategizing his next move. Michael and Caroline encouraged his interests with unwavering support, enrolling him in lessons, buying him books, and cheering him on at every match and tournament.
