As the night of the party unfolded with its mix of revelry and unease, Ryan, his girlfriend Emily, and their friend Jake chose to stay together, seeking comfort in their unity amidst the chaos. Unlike David and the others, who sought distraction in the carefree atmosphere, this trio found solace in each other's company, retreating to Ryan's basement.

The dim light cast long shadows on the walls, the air thick with the tension of recent events. The weight of Charlie's death and the disappearance of his body hung heavily over them, making every creak and groan of the house feel sinister.

"We need to stick together," Ryan said, his voice firm. "We can't let this break us."

Emily nodded, her mind racing with thoughts she hadn't yet voiced. She sat close to Ryan, her fingers intertwined with his. Jake sat nearby, his eyes flicking nervously between his two friends.

As Ryan spoke, Emily's thoughts drifted to darker times. She and Jake had a history—one they had kept hidden from Ryan. It wasn't just teenage mischief; they had been involved in a serious crime. It was a secret they had vowed to bury, but now, with everything happening, Emily couldn't shake the feeling that it was coming back to haunt them.

"Do you think it could be someone from our past?" Emily asked hesitantly, her eyes darting between Ryan and Jake.

Jake furrowed his brow, considering her question. "What do you mean? Like someone with a grudge?"

Emily bit her lip, hesitant but needing to share her suspicions. "Yeah, maybe. Think about it. We've all had our fair share of conflicts and enemies over the years. What if it's someone we've wronged?"

Ryan's expression grew serious. "You think someone would go this far just for revenge?"

Emily forced herself to look away, the guilt heavy in her chest. "I don't know, but it's possible. People can hold onto grudges for a long time. And this... this feels personal."

Jake's face turned pale, and he exchanged a glance with Emily, silently urging her to be cautious. He knew exactly what she was thinking, but they couldn't reveal their secret—not yet.

"Yeah," Jake said, trying to steer the conversation. "We've all done things we regret. Maybe we should think about who might hold something against us."

Ryan nodded, still oblivious to the deeper secret Emily and Jake were hiding. "We need to be more cautious. If Emily's right, the person behind this knows us well. We can't let our guard down."

As the hours passed and the three of them shared selective stories, Emily and Jake's unease grew. They were increasingly convinced that their past crime was the catalyst for the current events. The realization hung between them like a dark cloud, and they knew what they had to do.

After Ryan went upstairs to grab some drinks, Emily turned to Jake, her voice low and urgent. "We have to tell Officer Lucy. If this is about what we did, she needs to know. We can't keep this a secret anymore."

Jake's face turned grim, and he suddenly grabbed Emily by the collar, his eyes filled with a dangerous intensity. "If you surrender and tell her everything, I'll kill you myself," he threatened, his grip tightening.

Emily's heart pounded in her chest, fear and shock rendering her speechless for a moment. She had never seen Jake like this before, and the realization of his desperation hit her hard.

"We'll figure this out," Jake continued, his voice low and menacing. "But we do it on our terms. No police, no confessions. Do you understand?"

Emily nodded slowly, her throat dry. She could see the fear and panic in Jake's eyes, and she knew he was as terrified as she was. But his reaction had made it clear that they were in deeper than she had thought.

Ryan returned, oblivious to the tension that had just passed between Emily and Jake. The three of them spent the rest of the night discussing potential suspects and trying to piece together the mystery. But for Emily, a new layer of fear had been added. She had to navigate not only the external threat but also the volatile reaction of a friend who was just as desperate to keep their past hidden.

Suddenly, Ryan's phone rang, piercing the tense atmosphere. He glanced at the screen and saw it was a call from one of their classmates. He answered, and his face immediately turned pale. "What? When? How did it happen?" Ryan's voice trembled as he spoke. He hung up and looked at Emily and Jake, his eyes wide with shock.

"Xavier's dead," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. "They found his body at the party."

A shiver ran down Emily's spine, and she exchanged a horrified glance with Jake. The room felt colder, and the weight of their secrets pressed down even harder.

The news of Xavier's death hit Ryan like a punch to the gut. The gravity of the situation surged through him, adrenaline igniting a fierce urgency. "We have to go to the party," he said, scrambling to his feet. "Now."

Emily and Jake exchanged worried glances, the tension between them still palpable. But the grim reality of the moment pushed aside their fears. They knew they couldn't stay hidden while something dark was unfolding.

"Let's go," Emily urged, determination lighting her eyes. The weight of their past pressed down, but there was no time to dwell on it now. They needed answers.

The trio rushed out of the basement, hearts pounding as they moved through the dimly lit house. Ryan led the way, grabbing his jacket as they exited. They jumped into Ryan's car, the engine roaring to life and cutting through the oppressive silence.

As they sped through the dark streets toward the party, thoughts raced in their minds. Who could be behind this? Was it truly a revenge plot, or something even more sinister? The uncertainty gnawed at them, heightening their fear.

When they arrived at the party venue, the atmosphere was a chaotic blend of shock and disbelief. The music that had once filled the air was now replaced with murmurs and frantic conversations. Emergency lights flashed outside, illuminating the scene like a grim spotlight.

Ryan parked and they rushed inside, the pulse of the crowd surrounding them. The familiar faces of their classmates were etched with confusion and fear. In the corner, a group of students huddled, whispering in hushed tones, while others stood frozen, staring blankly at the chaos around them.

"Where's Officer Lucy?" Ryan asked, scanning the area. They needed to find her before panic could spiral out of control.

As Ryan found Agnes, he asked her how this happened. David suspiciously asked, "Who told you what happened here?"

Tom started staring at Ryan, Emily, and Jake suspiciously. "You're the one who called me," Ryan said. Agnes replied, "None of us called you."

Ryan pulled out his phone to show everyone, but he saw there was no call record....
