Link’s perspective

I remember the song Saria taught me. I wonder if she is ok. Maybe I should play it to see if I could speak with her. When I finally had some privacy, I played the song. Nothing. As I was about to give up on seeing her, I heard a voice. “Link? Did you call me?” it was Saria, exactly how I remember her. “How are you Link? It has been so long, I was nearly giving up hope on seeing you again!  But… how’s life?”  I hesitated, holding back tears. There was so much on my shoulders. So much that happened. So much… pressure. I held back more of my tears. “Link? Are you ok?” … I still could not speak.  “Are you ok?” She asked again. I said “there is so much! So much pressure on my shoulders, I don’t know what to do with it anymore! In my mind, I'm still a kid!  Still learning how to live life! But then I was given all of this pressure! At such a young age! I can't handle it anymore! But… I… have to… or else this world will face its end.” I broke down into tears. “Oh Link…” Saria said, running over to hug me. It made me feel a bit better.

“I hope you can get through all this pressure and I'm sorry you have to go through all that! I guess… all I can say is… take deep breaths.” Saria said, wiping the tears from my eyes. I looked up at her and smiled. I’m so grateful to have her as my best friend. “Just breathe.”

“I have to go now Link! I’m so happy I got to talk with you again! Goodbye!” she left and sheik came to talk to me. “Link? Who were you talking to? And why do you look like you were crying?” “sheik… all I can say is I was talking to my childhood best friend. And I had a lot to get off my chest.”

A big beast appeared before us, and sheik pushed me out of the way to fight him alone. “Sheik! What are you doing?!” I yelled. “I’m going to neutralize him so you can finish the fight! The hero of time can’t die!” she yelled back. Does that mean he is going to sacrifice his life?

Sheik is down. I rescued him by defeating the nasty foe. I took him to a cave and put cold water on his head. I saw the triforce of wisdom on his right hand. “Isn’t that crest supposed to symbolize the royal family?” I asked myself. I put down his mask so he can breathe better. I also saw that underneath the mask… was princess zelda. No wonder whenever we talked about zelda he would get really jealous and start to act weird.

When sheik woke up, I was relieved she was still alive. “Link? I'm sorry, I failed you! I failed  you and all of Hyrule!” she said, her eyes welled up with tears. I hugged her. “It's ok… zelda… everything is ok…”  I said reassuringly. “That monster was just… too big to handle all by yourself. You’re not alone anymore.” she looked up, shocked at me. “You… know?” she asked. She transformed back and fell to her knees in despair.  I’m sorry to have wasted your time, Link.” she said, sobbing. I went on my knees and hugged her tight, not letting go. I whipped the tears off her cheeks. “No, you were a big help to me zelda! Thank you!”
