I found myself thinking through the events that had happened weeks ago. Derek and I had a few run-ins where we would flirt, mostly me. But a few weeks ago, we celebrated Scott's acceptance into a vet school near our hometown.

While everyone else was busy with the party, I was sitting at the bar. I was nineteen, but everyone was drinking. I was drinking right along with everyone else. I was just sitting off by myself. I was trying to break from the stress of my applications to school. The whole process had just made my anxiety get worse. So drinking served as a positive distraction. That's when Derek walked up. He sat beside me and opened up to start flirting with me. It caught me off guard, but I flirted right back. I didn't expect it to go much further. I watched him look around, then he kissed me. It was a long, tender kiss. As he pulled away. I froze up. Derek gave a soft laugh and that's what solidified it. I happily agreed when Derek brought me up to his room. Then things heated up. It wasn't too long before things went under the sheets. I didn't care about what this would mean. I just focused on the moment. I had a huge crush on Derek. By the time morning came, Derek was gone and we chose to not mention it when we had run ins.

Now, I was dealing with the consequences.

After being sick for a few weeks, My dad forced me to go to the hospital. They took blood, forced me to do several tests. Then when that came back with 'peculiar outcomes', They did an ultrasound. I figured it was just to confirm a test result. I had no idea what the outcome would be. Then Melissa said it. A fetus. growing healthy and strong. I was pregnant. I held the ultrasound with the proof. A black and white photo of a blob. The doctor had no idea how. Said it was a miracle. It didn't really feel like that. I didn't even pay attention as Melissa introduced me to my new doctor. I was going to be forced to interact with the new doctor more often. She had told me I was forced to have weekly scans with her. Thankfully, she was very kind. So I didn't have an issue with it.

Now, I didn't know what to do. I had been given pamphlets, termination, adoption, then support for maintaining the pregnancy. I knew it as soon as she said the first option, I was going to keep the baby. The rest of the appointment was a blur. I walked out in a daze, processing it as best I could. I got into the jeep, setting the supplies of prenatal vitamins on the seat beside me. I looked to my phone. I slowly opened it, I wanted to let my support line know. I chose to send a message to my group chat with Isaac, Scott, and Lydia. Isaac and I had become more friendly since he started dating Scott. With shaking hands, I sent a picture of the ultrasound. I then set down my phone. I wanted them to know, But I wasn't ready to see the reactions yet. I was worried they would be disgusted, or think the worst. I just hoped it would be the positive outcome. I was still sitting in the parking lot of the hospital. I glanced down at my flat stomach.

"Just me and you I guess" I mumbled.

I started the jeep. I wanted to get home. The emotional shock from the day had just made me exhausted. I just wanted to nap, but I knew I hat to call my dad. I decided that could wait until after I got home. I planned to use the drive to practice what I was going to say to my dad. Plus use the drive to process. I mean, a baby.

Then it hit me, Derek. He had to be the father. He was the only guy I ever slept with. I had a faint Idea of how telling him would go over, he would get pissed then tell me to get rid of it. I felt sick. I couldn't tell him. I didn't want to know his opinion on the baby. I rested a hand over my stomach as I drove. It was still insane to think.

I used the rest of the drive to wrap my head around it. When I pulled up to the house, I turned my car off. I noticed my dad wasn't home. I sighed and slowly grabbed my phone. I dialed my dad's number and waited. When he answered the phone, he cleared his throat before speaking.
