"Would you hurry up! We're going to miss the train!" I shouted, tossing a pillow at Mattheo, who was still frantically packing.

The room was in disarray, with clothes, books, and various travel essentials strewn across the floor.

Mattheo, oblivious to the chaos, was deeply engaged in his packing, his movements rushed and all over the place.

"Hey, can't a guy pack in peace?" he replied, barely looking up from the mess.

"Besides, the longer I take, the more time we have together. And you love it."

His playful grin was maddeningly charming. Despite my frustration, I felt a smile tug at my lips.

"In your dreams! Actually, I can't wait to be rid of you," I teased, laughing despite the urgency. It was a familiar game between us, one that always ended with laughter.

Mattheo raised an eyebrow, his expression shifting to one of mock indignation. He sauntered over to me and gently placed his hands on my thighs.

"Is that so?" he asked, his voice low and playful.

I huffed, letting out a deep breath. "Yep!" I said, emphasizing the "p" as if to seal the deal.

Without warning, he pulled me into a tight embrace.

I squealed in surprise as his warmth enveloped me.

"Well, that's too bad, because I'll miss you," he murmured into my ear.

I laughed, my arms wrapping around him instinctively.

"I'll see you at the Malfoys'," I said, holding him close.

"I'm not going to my uncle's until the last two days." The change in plans, due to Sirius' work, had thrown me off, especially after the emotional rollercoaster of last month.

Mattheo's grip loosened, and I felt his mood shift. He pulled back slightly, his face clouded with concern.

"What's wrong?" I asked, noticing the change in his demeanor.

"I won't be at the Malfoys'. I have to go back to my manor," he said quietly, his voice laced with worry.

"Things have changed, but I promise it'll be okay. I have to protect you." His words sent a chill down my spine.

I knew what he wasn't saying—his father was likely back. The realization was both terrifying and heartbreaking.

"He's back, isn't he?" I asked, my voice trembling as I fought back tears.

I searched his eyes, hoping for a denial.

"Not exactly, but he will be any day," Mattheo admitted softly.

"I'm sorry, Tessa. You know I'll do anything to protect you. I promise nothing will happen to you." His reassurance was meant to comfort, but I knew how easily promises could be broken. He pressed a gentle kiss to my forehead, and I took a deep breath, trying to calm my racing heart.

"We still have time," I said, more to myself than to him.

"Guys! We're leaving! Hurry up!" Pansy's voice cut through the moment as she flung open the door and began dragging her luggage out.

I shook my head at her impeccable timing and sighed.

I was about to move when Mattheo grabbed my arm, turning me back to him.

"I promise," he repeated, his gaze earnest.

I wasn't convinced.

Despite his intentions, no one could guarantee safety against such threats.
