Jessie POV
"Th-thanks..." I stuttered shakily, worried they would take me away. But they seemed nice, about my age, and the girl wore a friendly smile on her face."No problem! What's your name?" The girl, whose name was Nita, pulled me up.
I dusted the dirt and soil off my clothes as I said, "My name is Jessie. Thanks for saving me from that tiger—if not for you guys, I would be dead...I have no powers to defend myself...I'm useless...I'm not from your tribe...I don't know how to get home..."
"Ok, whoa, Jessie, calm down," Leon placed his warm hand on my shoulder, pulling off his hood to stare into my eyes. For some reason, my heart pounded as I stared into his. "It was the right thing to do. And if you're from the Dokovian tribe, we'll take you to see my father. He'll fix up your wounds. And he's very friendly, I promise, he'll bring you back home."
I tried to take a few deep breaths as Nita instructed, before Leon led me back to their home.
The moment I stepped through the door, with Nita's bear Bruce lugging the dead tiger behind, Nita studying her nails, and Leon supporting me, an eagle-hooded man saw us and dropped the bowls in his hand, his jaw hanging open.
He quickly rushed over and shut the door, whipping the curtains closed and looking around before whispering, "Leon, why do you have an injured Dokovian in your arms?"
Leon answered for me—thankfully—"We found her being chased by a tiger in the forest, so we helped her, accidentally killed the tiger, and brought her home. Can you send her home? She doesn't know how to go back. And also look at her wounds."
I was covered in large, dark red bruises lining my body, with blood streaming from my forehead and a long slice down my leg. Guess this was what you got for having no powers. Even Leon and Nita looked a hundred times better than me—and they had done most of the fighting, after all.
Bo took one look at my injuries and gasped again. He rushed off, coming back a while later with numerous poultices, medicines, ointments, bandages and whatnot. I tried not to wince as he applied the ointment which tore through my body like a hurricane, shaking me with the immense pain. But the worst of it was over, and the angry welts seemed to have shrunk in after my endurance.
"You live with the Dokovians, don't you?" Bo asked as we headed out of the house.
I nodded shyly, not daring to use my words in the presence of such a strong figure. But he still understood what I said, leading us further into the forest.
We were soon about to leave the Alatian's territory when a deep voice rang out, "Bo?"
