Jessie POV
"Ok, we know that you can't control those snake limbs for your tracking energy ball," Alan noted, "But do you think you can hold the sphere for me? Like, after it conjures those limbs, don't let it disappear, try to keep it there in the air, floating and idle."I nodded, conjuring the sphere again. The sphere pulled Alan to me as usual with its odd limbs, crackling with blue lightning. But I focused on keeping it floating and hovering in the air with all my might. And to my surprise, this time, it actually worked, and the sphere continue to buzz with its electric power, instead of melting away into nothingness.
"Excellent!" Alan clapped. "If you can still keep it floating, it means you do have some control over this possibly living thing. And right now, it isn't creating more limbs to grab me again and again."
I wasn't sure if that was true, or if it wasn't spawning more limbs because of my sheer exhaustion—I felt quite tired already, and we hadn't even been doing that for long.
I hint that thing with the purple exploding sphere and the tiger attacking the guy, Alfie, had really drained my energy more than I thought.
But I forced myself to continue holding the sphere in the air, and I realised just how important that was when Alan pointed out, "I notice your lightning sphere also doesn't grab Leon and Nita, especially when they are in plain sight and very near to you."
"Oh yeah, that's true!" Nita realised excitedly. "It only grabbed us that very first time, when Jessie first discovered her powers."
"Precisely," Alan agreed. "Which is what I mean by there being a 'connection' between the three of you. It seems like...Jessie's mind...trusts the two of you enough, to restrain itself from attacking you accidentally or purposely. I wonder whether we can use the same control and learn these methods to improve the power further."
I had just begun to understand how important pushing these "hidden buttons" truly were. There was so much more I had yet to learn about this power and how I should control it to prevent it from hurting people...
At least it didn't hurt Leon and Nita, who I'd never want to hurt. They had saved me when I was in need, after all...
But I forgot everything I was thinking about when Leon glanced into my eyes and teased, "So, your mind trusts us, huh?"
I was rendered speechless, blushing a deep maroon before his face turned serious as he said, "It's nice to know that, though. And you should know that I trust you too, with my life and my heart."
