The Treaty

Jessie POV

The next day, just as Dad had said, everybody, the Alatians and the Dokovians, gathered at the same clearing in the forest as the last time. Except this time, things had become much clearer, not only to us, but also the leaders in terms of our current situation and how the particular treaty negotiations would go down.

"Good morning to everybody again," Ken said with his usual cheery smile. "As I am sure you all know, we are here to discuss and explain the rules of the treaty that the leaders of both tribes have created."

"Seeing the interest of the public in knowing the terms from the last meeting, we decided it would be best if we broadcast it clearly to everyone so that there would be no mix-up of any sort," Chris told everyone, his usual expression replaced with a wide smile instead, similar to Ken's.

Looks like even the Alatians were very glad about the change.

Then Ken picked up a slightly thick bind of paper and began to read from it.

"The Treaty Negotiations of 8th August, Year 2024, between the Alatian and Dokovian tribes-Prepared by Ken Sontel and Chris Coinon." I listened as he began painting out the mentioned treaty in long, slightly excruciating detail.

Some were simple, easy to understand and definitely very logical.

"Term 1 : The Alatians and the Dokovians shall now have shared territories as of this writing, pertaining to their unification."

Some were slightly confusing, seemingly not making sense to me but obviously well thought-out.

"Term 13a : Should one member of any original tribe harm a member of the other original tribe, the person shall be held under 3 months of custody and punished for their wrongdoing, as well as receive counselling. However should the victimised party retaliate, they will receive 1 month of custody, lighter punishment but not counselling. Repeated offences will lead up to larger durations of custody, harsher punishment, more counselling and at the very most, exile to the city people. Term 13bi : Should a tribe leader of one original tribe harm a non-leader of the other original tribe, he will be removed from his position, receive 5 months of custody, and all other above punishments under Term 13a for the culprit. Should the victim retaliate, the punishment remains the same to that of Term 13a. The tribe leader will also be banned from ever running again. Term 13bii : Should a tribe leader of one original tribe harm that of another original tribe, he will receive 7 months of custody, ban from elections for life and all above punishments mentioned for the same case in Term 13bi. Should the other tribe leader retaliate, he will receive the same punishments."

Some were very obviously put in place for security and pure worry of rebellions.

"Should anyone be accused of or suspected of rebelling against the new treaty rules, they will be held under probation and will receive 4 months of counselling and 2 months of custody should they be found guilty, as well as a ban from elections for 15 years."

Wonder if that would come into play. I certainly hoped not.
