Chapter 40

Ella's POV

The next few weeks were sluggish and drawn out. I called Madison every day, and she would tell me about her roommate Emily and how nothing was going on at Uni.

I'd tell her about training, and she watched all my games on TV. I scored in every game she managed to watch. The first time I scored I knew she was watching, I made her number with my hands and the second time I made a heart with my hands as Madison did against the US. 

Finally, it was the 1st of May when she finally finished Uni.

"So I told Emily that I don't know if I'll be back," 

"Don't forget about those Euro games," I told her.

"True,"

"We should be hearing about them soon,"

"Yep,"

"So did you send your stuff back home yet?" I asked.

"I did. I kept a bunch of stuff that I'd need but other than that everything is on its way home,"

"Are you coming right here or going home first?"

"I'm leaving tonight. I also sent a box of stuff to your house so if that gets there before I do I'm sorry,"

"It's fine," I laughed.

"Well, I know what I'm most excited about,"

"What?"

"Tomorrow night," She said smirking.

"It's gonna be the night of your life. You just wait," I replied smiling.

"Alright. I have a few last things to take care of before I leave. I'll text you later. Bye,"

"See you later,"

We hung up, and I decided there was another call I had to make.

"Miss Ella Toone! It's always a pleasure to see you," said Mark Skinner, the Manager of United.

"How are you, Mr Skinner?" I asked politely.

I had put my hair in loose curls and dressed up nicely for this meeting. It was for sure the most important one I've had.

"I'm doing well. How are you?"

"I'm fine. I just have one thing to talk to you about," I said taking a deep breath.

"Of course,"

"I just wanted to tell you that my friend and national team teammate Madison Lewis is thinking about not returning to uni because she just doesn't enjoy the uni life,"

"I heard about that," He said.

"And I heard a few teams are interested in her, like Brighton, Chelsea and Arsenal. And I heard that Leicester already gave her an offer,"

"Did they really?"

"Yeah. She only has an interest in playing for Arsenal or here because this has been her favourite team for a while. And I don't know how Arsenal would even be able to take her, they have lots of good forwards already,"

"So you think we should give her an offer?"

"That is what I'm saying, yes,"

"I think that's a great idea. I knew someone would say it,"

"I think having her on the team would make us a winning team,"

"I agree completely. I'll see what I can do. But until we give an offer or she signs with someone else, you don't say anything about this conversation. Please,"

"I promise you can trust me,"

"We'll see what we can do. Thanks for the suggestion, Ella,"

Madison's POV

The reuniting of us was long hugs and screaming.

We drove back to her house, and she said that she was off training that day, so we walked around the city.

At about 18:00, she took me to the United office.

"Why are we here? I thought we were going to the field to practice," I asked.

"Just have to take care of something real quick. Come on," She said getting out of the car as I followed her inside.

She said hi to a few people as we walked through the hallways and stuff, then we walked into a big room with a table with about 8 seats, and on one side of the table, there were a couple of people, the head manager and the assistant manager. Behind them was a girl who I assumed was the social media admin because of the camera she was holding.

When I sat down, they started talking to me about how I was a great player and how I was talented and stuff.

"So that's why we would like to offer you this contract for the season. We think you would be a great addition to this team. So this contract is £90,000 for one season and if you like it here, we can extend at any point," Marc Skinner said.

I looked down at the contract and read everything on it. There were no weird loopholes or anything, I took a law class when trying to figure out my major.

I looked at the faces of the coaches, and then Ella next to me.

I thought for a minute, thought about the conversation Ella and I had on the beach about life going forward.

I twirled the pen between my fingers nervously as I stared down at the contract.

Sorry I haven't posted recently my brother was hospitalised so spent my time with my family.

So that's it for this book!! However, there will be a sequel. 

Will Madison sign the contract or not? Will she stay another year at Uni or decide to play with Ella at United?
