Chapter 4:
I told my mom I wanted to go see Marla. She agreed, so we're heading over to the hospital now. It wasn't that crowded as last time, so we weren't waiting that long.
"Cassie Butterfield?" A nurse calls out.
"Yes?"
"You're able to see her now."
I walk into Marla's room, she's still in a coma. I try not to sob.
"Hey... I really want to hear your voice again," I say quietly. "I want us to be able to hang out again, you know? I miss you so much."
After a few more minutes sitting next to Marla I finally left the hospital. The fact that she's still in a coma is scaring me. The doctors pretty much told my mom and I if she doesn't wake up soon, they're going to declare her brain dead.
"Cassie!" Emma calls out.
"What's up, Emma?"
"Didn't you hear the big news?!"
"What big news?"
"There's a new girl coming to school! I think her name is like Layla, Lena, or Lydia?" Emma responds. "I'm not sure."
I think I see her walking down the hall. She has really dark brown hair and blue eyes, this girl almost looks like... Marla? No! Snap out of it Cassie, this can't be Marla's sister can it? I mean Marla never mentioned having a sister at all! All she mentioned was that both her parents died from some type of cancer.
"Let's go talk to her!" Emma shouts.
"Wait Emma!" I say.
"What?"
"I have a gut feeling that this girl is Marla's sister."
"What makes you think that?"
"The hair, the eyes, the facial expressions."
"You know what I think Cassie?"
"What?" I asked.
"I think you are going crazy and just trying to find ways to connect with Marla again. I mean we don't even know this girl's last name! You can't really assume."
A voice interrupts our conversation.
"Hi, sorry to bother you both but do you know where the bathroom is?"
"Oh yea, it will be to your left by the math classes," I say.
"Oh thanks! I've been asking directions all day and no one has been answering me!" The girl says. "I'm Lydia Morris."
I knew it! She did have a sister.
"I'm sorry, did you say Morris?" Emma asks.
"Yea, is something wrong about that?" Lydia asks.
"No, No! Not at all, I just happen to know your sister. Marla?" I say.
Lydia sighs. Her eyes look in pain.
"Oh yea, Marla..."
Emma and I both look at each other confused.
"Anyways, thanks for the directions. I'll see you later."
Lydia starts walking to the bathroom holding something, I couldn't really see what the item was but it almost looked like it was a vape or a bottle.
"Something seems off, why would Marla not tell me about a sister?"
"I don't know Cassie, but she seems like a nice girl. Maybe when Marla wakes up you can ask her about everything."
