Chapter 2:
I woke up the next morning with my head spinning. I still can't stop thinking about Marla. My mom is calling me downstairs for breakfast. I head downstairs.
"Hey sweetheart, did you get a goodnight sleep?"
"I guess."
"Well, I'm sure some nice pancakes with omelets will cheer you up."
She's not wrong though, her cooking is fantastic. Marla and I always shoved everything in our mouths since the food was so delicious.
"Mom, do you think Marla's okay? I'm worried about her."
"Cassie, sometimes you just have to be patient. Marla's a fighter, I'm sure she'll be back on her feet in no time."
"Okay."
Mom and I finished eating breakfast. I head back upstairs while she's doing dishes. I know this was dumb to do but I tried calling Marla's phone. It just kept going to voicemail.
"Please leave a message after the beep."
Beep.
"Hey Marla, It's Cass. I'm really sorry that I keep calling you, but I just really need to know how you're doing. I also really miss you. It might sound like I'm being dramatic or exaggerating, when really I'm just scared. You're so important to my life, I- I can't have you gone. So if you ever receive this voicemail, please call me back. Take care."
I hung up my phone. Hopefully I get a response back very soon. My bus was late today, so I arrived at school late. What a great way to start the day. Just as I was walking to class, I bumped into Kayla.
"Ugh! Watch where you're going!" Kayla shouts.
"Don't you have anything better to do than just scream at people?"
"Don't you have anything better to do than being all lesbian with Marla?"
I roll my eyes and simply walk away. I don't have time for her bullshit.
"Yea, that's what I thought! Go cry over your faggot lover!"
Ugh, she's such a bitch. Not only does she say the most homophobic things, but she's also a little racist too. I can't tell you how many times she says the n-word. Seriously she has so many other options to be a better person, but no she chooses to be the way she is. A racist, homophobic, asswipe. The bell rang and I headed over to English. Like I've said before, I'm in no mood for anyone's bullshit nor drama. Ms. Hill walks in, ready to start the day.
"Good morning class! I know this week has been very hectic with things, but I promise you everything will be fine," Ms. Hill states.
Oh yea! Not like my best friend or anything almost fucking died in arms and I was too panicked to do anything. Lunch just started after class and I'm sitting alone at a table. Right when I was sitting I saw Emma walking towards me.
"Hey, Emma..."
"Hey Cassie! I haven't seen you ever since you left our cheerleading team. I heard about what happened with Marla, I have to apologize."
"No, it's okay. You don't have to apologize for anything."
I've been doing cheerleading ever since I was 7. It was my favorite hobby in the whole world. I even made Varsity of Lake Lullaby High School (LLHS), which I stuck around until my sophomore year.
"Is there anything that I can help with? I don't wanna see you upset today."
"It's okay Emma, you really don't need to do anything for me."
