I watched as the world crumbled in my hands. Everyone I loved in front of me, gone in an instant. Memories flashes through my mind. I turned around and a snake was on my trail, big and thirsty for blood..my blood.

Before it reached me and swallowed me whole, I got dragged out of the horrific nightmare that had always crept up on me at night in my room. The same nightmare that caused many sleepless nights and fallen tears, but this year..this year is gonna be different. I have to make it stop and change for the better..but the question is can I?

--------------------------------------------------------------

Stepping onto the train. Platform 9 3/4 was a dream, unlike the nightmares I've had. Going to Hogwarts, joining my 4th year after going to durmstrang for the first 3. A change could be good for me.

All I could think about in my brain was that I, Briar Black, was standing in front of the train that would lead me to the rest of my life. The place that I would spend most of my days, years even.

As soon as I got on the train, I headed straight for the back and sat down in a compartment alone..guess no one is really fond of Sirius Black's 'hotshot' daughter huh? This year could be less uneventful than I thought.

As the train takes off, the trolley comes around, "Anything from the trolley dear?", I hear the fragile woman say. I greet her with a smile and a tiny wave.

"No thank you ma'am." I respond, and she greets me back with a nod before heading down the aisle to more students. I wipe the smile off of my face and go back to thinking.

I softly sigh and sit back in my seat and await my arrival to Hogwarts, and then I feel myself doze off and suddenly feel sleepy enough to fall asleep..

------------------------------------------------------------------

As the train comes to a halt 'stop' I immediately flutter my eyes open to see the view outside the train. Hogwarts. This is it. My school, my life for the next 3 years.

I take my bag and carry it off the train, but as I'm passing by, I capture the eyes of Blaise Zambini and Theodore Nott. Two of the best companions of Draco Malfoy...

Now the history between me and Malfoy is a complicated one..we used to know each other when we were little..then things got complicated when Lucius and Narcissa went against my father..so we drifted apart. I doubt he even remembers me regardless.

Soon enough , I turn back my focus on arriving at the school. Since it is my first year here, even though I am joining in 4th, the sorting hat ceremony has to take place before I can settle down in one of the four house common rooms.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Awaiting in the great hall was Dumbledore at the front and the sorting hat accompanying him by his side. As a few first years went and got sorted, I make eye contact with a familiar face...Harry potter. Now me and Harry weren't close friends at all because I would constantly make the assumption that my father favored him over me, but we weren't on the worst of terms either, so making eye contact wasn't out of the blue for us but his eyes told a story, a story saying 'I didn't know you go here now' and with that I turned my attention back to Dumbledore as it was my turn for the sorting hat.

Since my father was the only Black placed in Gryffindor I was completely certain I would take after him in this aspect, as the sorting hat sat on my head I thought to myself that I could live in my father's footsteps, become a powerful and peaceful heir of the Black name.

That was until my face drops and the world goes silent and stops spinning.

Stuck in time.

Stuck in a loop.

Stuck in...Slytherin?

How is this possible? How could the daughter of Sirius black end up in Slytherin? I was supposed to be in Gryffindor like my father. This can't be..it must be wrong. This bloody hat can't tell me the wrong choice!

With that I was sent off to the Slytherin table in the great hall. Accompanying my left and right sides were Astoria Greengrass and Pansy Parkinson. Two of the most famous Slytherin females in our year.

"Soooo...black..is it?" Parkinson snapped. I could tell right off the point that she had some cockiness holding onto her. She definitely thinks she's the best.

At that comment I nod my head with a serious expression on my face.

"Yes it is. Parkinson I take it?" I say back. I shoot her a little smirk, although not a playful one, more like a 'Don't mess with me' one.

"The one and only, in the flesh! And this is Astoria Greengrass, Tori for short." Pansy responds. I look over to my other side and see a softer but pretty girl next to me.

"Nice to meet you..uhm...uh...-" Astoria stutters. I can see the confusion in her voice and it only makes sense, no one knows me here.

"Briar. Briar black." I state. Both of their eyes go wide for a couple seconds but they quickly recover at the mention of my name.

"Briar..that's a beautiful name." Astoria and Pansy say in unison. I softly smile at them to make it seem I'm not much of a stern person besides the cold demeanor I've been putting on.

With a soft chuckle I thank them both before accidentally holding eye contact with a boy across the table..not just any boy...Malfoy..Draco Malfoy.
