4. The Cursed Oasis

Kantomaru took a deep breath and approached the small rock once more, his previous failure weighing on his mind. Determined, he settled into a focused stance, closing his eyes briefly to centre himself. This time, he channeled his chakra with greater precision, having learned how to release it into the rock more effectively. He visualised his chakra flowing steadily into the earth, gently coaxing the rock to break apart. With a calm expression, he maintained a steady stream of chakra, allowing it to seep into the rock's surface. The rock began to tremble slightly under his influence.

For nearly a minute, Kantomaru's concentration remained unshaken as he guided the chakra through the stone. Gradually, small cracks appeared and spread across the rock. It was as if the earth itself was slowly giving in to his will. Finally, with a soft crackle, the rock shattered into several pieces, scattering across the ground.

Kantomaru's face lit up with a mixture of relief and satisfaction. He had managed to manipulate the earth successfully, and the extended effort had taught him the patience and control needed to wield Earth Style effectively. He then continued this process everyday for the next six months to increase his earth control and fortify his basic abilities. And so, a year had flown by.

During this year he was now able to crumble small rocks about 10cm wide and 10cm long. He had gotten bored because he could now do it in one second so on the sixth month, he had tried to manipulate the rock to be softer and by the end of the year he was able to partially make the rock soft which was a big step. He could also now do 20 push-ups, 25 sit-ups, 25 squats, a one-minute plank, and 20 dips, three sets each and he could run 10 km. Bear in mind, he was five and a half years old. He also got better at his chakra control and could hold the paper to his forehead for about 30 minutes and meditate in his room for about an hour without losing concentration. It was now nearly second nature to him.

He had also become very educated about what goes on in Sunagakure and its history. Lastly, he had asked one of the caretakers called Hana to teach him how to cook, which delighted her as no other child was willing to help in this small orphanage. She taught him how to make traditional meals and gave him a few books to read and comprehend every step of the way. The only reason Kantomaru did this was because he wanted nutritional meals to grow big and not have any stunted growth or defects in his body.

Kantomaru thought 'if I can now make rocks elastic, partially soft, and I'm also able to meditate while half buried on the earth, then I should take my next big step. I shouldn't go on to bigger or stronger object yet as I want my control to be perfect so I'll keep training making the rock soft enough to be elastic and my next step should be to make sculptures of things like people, animals or utensils all with just the earth element to make my control much more refined, however I can't do that yet as I'm not able to soften the rock enough to bend it or make it elastic so until then, I'll keep my normal training routine.'

'I also want to start the exercise of walking on the surface of trees vertically upright without my hands just my feet, but I don't want to destroy the walls of the orphanage by accidentally putting too much chakra into the soles of my feet, as that would cause too many question like where did I learn about the exercise? And why did I try it without adult supervision? So, I need to find somewhere where nobody goes.'

And so, he went to find a place where nobody goes, after days and nights of endlessly walking around the village he overheard some chunin talking about taking some genin's bodies out from the cursed oasis because they got too cocky and went deep into oasis and straight towards their death. Kantomaru thought to himself 'cursed oasis what's that? Well of course I have to go check it out, but I can't just ask them what that is because it sounds dangerous and ill probably get in trouble for eavesdropping, so I'll just find out about it at the library.'

When Kantomaru reached the library he went to the book section about Sunagakure's geography and maps after a few minutes of skimming he found the cursed oasis with a big red sign on it saying prohibited access unless you're a ninja, so Kantomaru thought to himself  it 'also said that it's one of the largest oasis in the land of wind however it has a big problem, in few words it was like Konoha's  forest of death but much worse.

From the morning to the afternoon it would be scorching hot and full of venomous scorpions, venomous spiders, rattlesnakes, cougars and many more creatures which by the way where all abnormally big because of chakra and the dangerous habitat they lived in, only the strong survive. It also said that at night the temperatures would freezing cold like all other deserts and since it was also pitch black the trees could hide dangerous creatures. However, it also said that it gets more dangerous the deeper you go so the outskirts of the oasis weren't that dangerous.

Lastly it said that this specific oasis was one of the largest in the world if not the largest being ten thousand times bigger than a normal oasis. It was ten thousand hectares which is a hundred square kilometres, so its dimensions were ten by ten kilometres which was quite big. So In few words If I stay near the edge of the oasis then I'll be fine with just minor dangers and I can practice walking on trees without anyone seeing me as I heard most genin are too scared to enter, most chunin have other things to do and most jonin just have no need to be going there, also the general public isn't allowed there, well that's good for me really really good.' Kantomaru smiled and raised his fist up high like Trump and then giggled, as he felt he was a winner like Kendrick.
