Back in the present, Kantomaru weighed the vest and each of the bracelets. The scale confirmed his estimates: the vest came out to 3kg, the ankle weights at 2kg each, and the wrist weights at 1kg each. It was perfect. All the weights summed up to 9kg. He didn't make heavier weight so he wouldn't have any health problems while growing up, things like hindering his height or causing early damage to his young body, which would affect him in the future.
At first, Kantomaru wasn't able to complete his new training regimen; the weights were simply too heavy. He could move moderately but not enough to finish his work out. With each passing exercise the air felt heavier and heavier while his body felt slower and more sluggish. He planned to do three sets of his regular exercises which was: 40 push-ups, 50 sit-ups, 50 squats, 40 dips, a 4-minute plank, and a 20-kilometer run for each set. But despite his efforts, he only managed to complete one full set before his body gave out. When he tried to do the second set, his arms were shaking uncontrollably, his legs were numb, he couldn't feel them, and the weights that were meant to help him get stronger now felt like a nightmare. After realising that he just wasn't going to complete his workout he went home.
Later that evening, Kantomaru returned home at around 8:30 PM, all his muscles were burning. He stepped into his room and barely made it to his bed. The room was still foreign to him; he had only moved in today, and the space felt both vast and empty. Although he felt relieved to finally have his own room and bed after living for so long with other children and sleeping on a futon.
When he got to his bed, he let his body heavily descend on the bed face down, he then turned around and layed on the bed while staring at the freshly painted ceiling. However his mind was in another place, his brain couldn't stop repeating the failures from today, how he had set out to become strong but couldn't even take the first step, he was trying to think of ways to be able to complete his training. He thought and thought and thought, he asked himself 'What am I doing wrong?' 'How can I get stronger?' 'How can I complete this?' He closed his eyes, trying to think of a solution and then a thought hit him.
A memory from his previous life had just returned to him— 'Black Clover'. In that anime, the characters used something called 'Mana Skin', a technique that allowed them to coat their bodies in a protective layer of mana. This not only shielded them from extreme conditions like intense heat and cold but also enhanced their physical capabilities, making them stronger, faster, and more durable. Kantomaru's eyes shined with the light of hope.
'What if I used chakra in the same way as they do in that anime?' he thought, the idea quickly beginning to take shape in his head. 'A layer of chakra to reinforce my body, to help me carry those weights with no problem' It made sense. Chakra flowed through his body, connecting to every muscle, every fiber. If he could learn to control it in a similar way, then maybe just maybe he could push past the limits and become even stronger.
The thought filled him with joy and determination. 'I'll try this tomorrow, after the academy,' he decided, with a new fire burning in his chest. 'I'll figure out how to make it work.' Then he let himself get dragged into the world of dreams, the unfamiliarity of the space fading as his thoughts vanished. 'Tomorrow, I'll do it,' he said to himself before falling asleep.
The next day at the academy, Kantomaru was taught a bit of theory, geography, and shinobi tactics. This was so the Suna shinobi would be well-educated on the layout of areas where their future battles could take place, giving them a great advantage. However, this time they also learned the correct way to throw kunai and shuriken. In his first throws, Kantomaru was decent, as he had been training with earth shurikens and kunai. For the kunai throwing exercise, out of 10 stationary targets, he hit 4; for the shuriken exercise, he hit 3, which in his opinion was not that good. The only reason he hadn't hit the target more times was that he had slacked off on his kunai and shuriken training, and also because his earth shurikens and kunai were of different weights from the original ones. However, now that he held the real ones, he had a rough idea of their weight, so he could now make weapons that weighed the same as the originals. This would boost his productivity by miles, which made him jump with excitement.
