Zoro's compliments towards Kantomaru and Genki weren't enough to truly grasp how strong and skilled they were for their age. He hadn't taken into account the training they performed daily after school. Well, it's not like he could—he wasn't some stalker like a certain white-eyed kunoichi from the Hidden Leaf Village.
During these six months, Kantomaru and Genki trained rigorously, especially Kantomaru, who pushed Genki to train harder. He realized that all he had over everyone else was chakra control and a higher IQ. I know you must be thinking, "Isn't he much stronger physically than others?" Well, yes, he is, but that didn't matter as long as the Glacial Strength Clan existed. So, he had to make up for his lack of strength with skill. Now, don't get me wrong—he was strong.
However, as the Glacial members got older, their muscles would grow, and they would also train. Just picture most shinobi against a Hyuga in close quarters; it just isn't fair. It's like trying to put a Uchiha in a genjutsu—it just isn't fair. Kantomaru had come to terms with that and decided to make up for it with skill. In the academy, he wouldn't be allowed to use chakra skin in battles, so he wouldn't have the upper hand against those damn Glacials.
About 2 months into the summer holidays, at the outskirts of the Cursed Oasis, Genki and Kantomaru were about to have a battle all out. SWOOSH! The gentle breeze blew, and with it a leaf also blew. And so, they mentally counted. 5, 4, 3, 2, 1. As the leaf touched the ground, Genki quickly took out four rocks and infused them with wind chakra, then he threw them at Kantomaru at incredible speeds. Kantomaru didn't see this coming and while trying to dodge them he was hit by two of them, on his chest and on his leg which causd him minor injury's. Kantomaru then quickly activated his chakra skin, ran towards Genki, and threw a jab. Genki parried the punch with his left and threw a hook with his right, Kantomaru jumped back and threw 3 earth shurikens at tremendous speeds.
Genki jumped to the side and dodged 2 of them, however 1 of them skimmed his arm. While Genki was distracted by the shurikens, Kantomaru had exerted as much chakra as he could towards his chakra skin and in a burst of speed he appeared on front of Genki. In the blink of an eye his powerful fist was flying straight towards Genki's face, however Genki saw it coming, dodged the punch and countered him with a powerful hook to the face. Kantomaru fell on his back and wasted no time, he instantly jumped up into a handstand and used his hands to propel himself up and give Kantomaru a double legged kick to the chin. Genki's legs were lifted from the floor, but Kantomaru wasn't done, he kicked him 4 more times, with each hit accurately hitting Genki's chin. After he was done, he stepped back and waited for Genki to get up.
Genki laughed while on the floor and said, "you slowed down your punch to lure me in so I could counter you and let my guard down when you were on the ground, your fighting intellect is as high as ever. But it's really not fair that you made earth kunai and shuriken before the fight."
Kantomaru then gave Genki a fist bump and said, "yeah sorry about that, but there is no such thing as fair game in a world full of shinobi, anyways good fight.".
