The first rays of dawn crept into Serenity Vale High School, casting long shadows that danced along the corridors. The Horizon Shadow Class was slowly waking up, their spirits slightly lifted after the successful missions of the previous day. Despite the ever-present danger, there was a sense of cautious optimism among the group.
In the makeshift kitchen, the scent of breakfast filled the air. Fazirah, Asnina, Dayana, and Famizah were hard at work, preparing a simple but hearty meal. The HS class and other suvivors gathered in the cafeteria, ready to discuss the day’s plans.
As they sat down, Max, ever the strategist, took a bite of his toast and said, “Alright, team. Today we need to investigate that old factory. We don’t know what we’ll find there, but it could give us more answers.”
Affendy nodded, sipping his coffee. “I agree. But we need to be careful. We don’t know what we’re walking into.”
Ann, always the optimist, chimed in with a grin, “And if we’re lucky, maybe we’ll find a vending machine that still works. I’ve been craving something sweet.”
The group chuckled, the brief moment of humor breaking the tension.
Lorenda, looking at her plate thoughtfully, added, “We should also keep an eye out for anything that could strengthen our defenses. The zombies are relentless, and we need to be prepared for anything.”
As the conversation continued, Mary leaned over to Mae and whispered, “You know, this would be the perfect time for a zombie apocalypse movie marathon.”
Mae grinned. “Yeah, because we definitely haven’t had enough of zombies lately.”
Across the table, Nigel and Alif were discussing the radio transmitter they had found. “We got a faint signal last night,” Nigel said. “It was mostly static, but I think we can boost the range if we set up an antenna on the roof.”
Alif nodded. “It’s worth a shot. If we can reach someone out there, it could change everything.”
As the breakfast wrapped up, Max stood and addressed the group. “Okay, everyone. We’ve got our tasks for the day. Let’s be careful out there. And remember, we’re in this together.”
The group split into teams again. Mary, Shenny, Intan, Shamir, and a few others would head to the old factory, while Nicole, Lorenda, and their group would search the surrounding area for more supplies and survivors. Nigel and Alif, along with Faizah and Ann, would work on setting up the radio antenna.
Before heading out, Mary stopped by the armory where Zawil and Filbert were inspecting their weapons. “Everything in order?” she asked.
Filbert, with a confident smile, replied, “Locked and loaded. We’ve got enough firepower to take on a small army.”
Zawil added, “Let’s just hope we don’t need to use it all.”
Mary laughed, feeling a bit lighter. “Let’s hope. But if we do, I’m glad you two are with us.”
The team heading to the factory gathered their gear and set out. The journey through the deserted streets was tense. The eerie silence of the town was occasionally broken by the distant moans of zombies, a grim reminder of the threat lurking around every corner.
As they approached the factory, a dilapidated structure with broken windows and rusted metal, Shamir held up a hand to signal the group to stop. “We don’t know what’s inside,” he whispered. “Stay alert.”
They moved cautiously through the overgrown yard and into the building. The interior was dark, the only light coming from the broken windows above. The air was thick with dust and the faint smell of decay.
