The battle had left everyone on edge. Despite their exhaustion, sleep was a luxury few could afford. Serenity Vale High School had become a fortress, but even a fortress could be breached. The horrors of the night replayed in the students’ minds as they struggled to rest, their thoughts haunted by the relentless zombies and the new threat they faced.
Mary sat alone in the dimly lit cafeteria, her eyes staring blankly at a cup of cold coffee in front of her. She hadn’t had the chance to change out of her blood-stained clothes, and the weight of what they had been through was written all over her face.
Nicole walked in, noticing Mary’s state. "You okay?" she asked softly, sitting down next to her.
Mary sighed, rubbing her eyes. "I don’t know, N'cole. This is getting harder. We keep losing people, and now these new zombies… it’s like we’re fighting a losing battle."
Nicole nodded, her expression somber. "I know. But we’re still here, still fighting. That has to count for something."
Before Mary could respond, Shamir entered, followed by Angella and Nigel. They were supposed to be resting, but the events of the night had left them restless.
"Couldn’t sleep either?" Nigel asked, taking a seat.
"Nope," Angella replied, shaking her head. "Too many thoughts running through my head. Plus, the constant growling outside isn’t helping."
The sound of distant zombie growls was a constant reminder that they were never truly safe. It was an unnerving soundtrack to their lives now.
"We need to do something about those zombies," Shamir said, his tone serious. "We can’t just sit here and wait for them to attack again."
"Agreed," Mary replied, finally taking a sip of her cold coffee. "But we need a plan. Something that doesn’t get more of us killed."
As the small group discussed their options, more students began to gather in the cafeteria, unable to sleep and seeking some sense of normalcy in each other’s company.
"Hey, guys," Max said, walking in with Olga and Jarezza. "I’ve been thinking. We need to figure out where these new zombies are coming from. If we can find the source, maybe we can stop them."
"And how do you propose we do that?" Novelyn asked, joining the group. "It’s not like they’re just going to lead us to their lair."
"No, but maybe we can track them," Max suggested. "They’re not like the others—they move with purpose. There has to be a reason for that."
"Tracking zombies sounds like a death wish," Filbert muttered, crossing his arms.
"We’re already living on borrowed time," Mae pointed out. "If we don’t do something, it’s only a matter of time before they overrun us."
As the group debated their next move, Intan and Ransyam entered the cafeteria, looking grim.
"Guys, we’ve got a problem," Ransyam said, cutting through the chatter. "We just spotted another group of those fast zombies. They’re heading this way."
The announcement sent a wave of tension through the group. They had barely survived the last attack, and now another was on its way.
"Fuck, it's endless, how many this time?" Shamir asked, his voice tight with concern.
"Too many," Intan replied, her voice shaking slightly. "And they’re moving fast."
"Everyone, gear up!" Mary ordered, standing up. "We’re not going down without a fight."
The students scrambled to prepare, grabbing weapons and reinforcing barricades. The air was thick with fear and determination, each person steeling themselves for the battle ahead.
