Christopher

"Mr. Wallace, we meet again. Please take a seat."

I do as Detective Reyes asks and watch as she slides a file in front of me. I don't pick it up until she nods her head at it, a signal that she wants me to look at it.

I open it to find what looks like copies of handwritten notes. But on closer inspection, I realize these are diary entries, Amelia's to be exact.

"What is this?" I ask, my eyes scanning over the text. I see my name pop up a time or two and my eyes narrow. Hayden told me I was in the diary but what she'd told me was all superficial things.

"Go ahead, read it," Reyes tells me, looking comfortable in the chair across from me. "Tell me when you're done reading it."

I sigh but start reading it through properly. It's dated about six days before her death and I try and remember what I'd done that day and if I'd seen her. But all I remember about that Friday was not wanting to go home and asking Nathan if we could go out. And then we'd met up with Hayden at that club. She'd been mad at me but fuck, she'd looked so good that day.

I try to keep my thoughts focused on the task at hand, keenly aware that Reyes is watching my every reaction.

There are many things I like to do on Fridays after school ends. Going to Christopher Wallace's place is definitely not on the list.

But Granddad is insisting that I come with him. Apparently, something happened this week that painted the Wallaces in a bad light and he as the headmaster is paying a personal visit to make sure things are all smoothed over. He says it's important to do it face to face since they put a lot into our school.

I asked why I had to go and he said that way Christopher and I could keep each other away from the adult conversation.

But when we got there, Christopher wasn't there. So thanks to Christopher's disappearing act, I was forced to sit down with the two older men while my grandad apologized about some false accusation made against Christopher, about how he'd allegedly cheated or something. Of course, I believe he did but who cares about my opinion?

Anyway, the conversation was boring and after a whole lot of groveling, Mr. Wallace, the scary-hot bastard, asked me if I would like to take a 'turn about his gardens'. He was totally dismissing me in the most polite way possible but I was so bored that I just thanked him and left while they continued to discuss whatever they were discussing in his office.

I left their office but instead of going outside like I said I would, I went into the kitchen. I guess that's where the Big Man was before we arrived. His cup of coffee was lying on the counter half-empty. And beside it were some documents. They seemed pretty important and so my curiosity got the better of me.

I opened them up and started reading them and I'm not sure what exactly Wallace Corp does... I used to think it was something about medical equipment or indestructible tanks for the military or something, but what I saw in there... it seemed weird. Maybe dodgy. Like it was top secret because what they were doing wasn't right. And I'm pretty sure I read the words classified, human, and experiments.

But before I could read further to make sure I was reading things right, the housekeeper asked me what I was doing. I'm sure she saw me snooping but she just told me to get out and pushed me out of the way to pick up the folders.

I think she took them straight back to Mr. Wallace, or master, as she calls him. (Barf). But I'm worried after Grandad and I left that she told him I'd been going through them.
