Facing Reality

The shock hadn't wavered off yet and Jihoon couldn't yet move from where he was sitting at the step of their staircase watching the chaos that his household had turned to just a few minutes ago. He doesn't remember how it happened, he can't even remember what he was doing when he heard the news. He might have been in his room? Or around the Piano? Things were blurry in his memory and yet the numbness still hadn't left him. He didn't cry either and he hates himself for it. Maybe he didn't love his father as much as the rest if how they are all reacting proves something or maybe he was still in denial to even believe such a possibility could've ever come true in their own family.

His mother was in a devastating state, she was sobbing so hard, Seokmin by her side trying to hug her or comfort her, his own tears in his eyes but even for an 11-year-old, there was so much he could do for her on his own with everyone trying to beat their own grief. Her screams didn't subside at all and wouldn't for a while, Jihoon could not imagine how hard it must be to lose your mate, your best friend, the love of your life, and the one person you have been bonded to for life for years, a piece of your own heart disappearing forever to never return to leave only emptiness behind it and hollowness that could kill anyone in desperation, her pain was palpable, and she could not recognize anyone in front of her, Jihoon worries that her omega will go feral at this point and that road is even worse, they cannot lose both of their parents in one day. What will they even do on their own then? 7 children on their own, with only one of them over 18 and the rest still young. How will they even survive?

Then there's tiny Vernon crying his eyes out on the sofa, Wonwoo was holding him close to his chest, silent tears of his own on his cheeks, and yet the child would not stop no matter what and no matter how much Wonwoo tried to calm him down, not that Jihoon expected him to be quiet in the first place and then to their side between two cushions laid baby chan, really they should have left him in the nursery but Jihoon was worried they will all get so absorbed in their grief and neglect the baby, the baby's wails haven't stopped as well, it was way louder than any of them combined and yet their mother did not even look to his side or try to do anything, hell even Jihoon's heart was breaking looking at him so he could not fathom the fact her motherly instincts disappeared in an hour to her grief. Jihoon wanted to scream at her to tell her to get herself together, that she had kids to care for, that she had a newborn to feed and comfort, and that she needed to be the strong person in this room so that they could all be okay so that they all can step on their feet once again and yet he could not move from his place.

Not far from him was standing Yoongi with a blank look on his face leaning on a wall and staring ahead at nothing, Jihoon could not even tell what he was thinking then but all of them were feeling helpless without their father now especially with Yoongi being their oldest, and the only one old enough to really take any responsibility of anything he must be out of his mind, they did send as well word for Seungcheol to come back but that will take days for him to travel back from Oxford and Jihoon knew the other would miss the funeral in the process.

The scene around Jihoon felt more like a painting of suffering, the whole family in one room, mourning, crying, and screaming, and yet Jihoon was just watching them helplessly. It will hit him later he knows that, when he goes back to his room, when it will get quiet and he will be alone he knows it will hit then. He refuses to let himself go in front of them, not that Jihoon usually ever did, but someone had to at least be attentive in that house, someone had to at least guide the servants on what to do for the funeral, someone had to do something.

Today however the picture-perfect image of his happy family that has been engraved in his mind since he was a mere child has broken.

"Jihoon?" Jihoon blinks his eyes and looks at the room slightly apologizing to a worried Wonwoo next to him. They had just entered the Kwon estate and yet the moment they did flashbacks rushed to Jihoon's mind straight on and he could do nothing but stare at them and remember that day when their own lives changed.  The day everything took a turn to the worst.
