FAYE
I was in the middle of a report when my phone buzzed. I glanced at the screen and saw a message from Wanwan.
I sighed, finishing up the last of my work before glancing at the clock. It was already 12:15 PM.
Sana hindi ako ma-late. I grabbed my keys and headed to the parking lot, hoping the traffic wouldn't be too bad.
The airport was as busy as ever. I scanned the crowd for Lux. She was my cousin, and despite our competitive nature, we had a complicated but strong bond. Ngayon, parang it's been forever since I last saw her.
I spotted Lux coming out of the arrivals gate, her designer luggage rolling behind her. She looked around, her eyes landing on me. She raised an eyebrow and smirked. I couldn't help but smile back as I made my way over to her.
"Lux! Long time no see," I said, giving her a hug.
"Faye," she greeted, her voice carrying that unmistakable mix of warmth and coolness. "You look like you've been working hard."
"Always," I replied, letting her go and taking her luggage. "Let's get out of here. I'm sure gutom ka na rin." pag-aaya ko sa kanya.
As we headed to the car, we chatted about work and life. "I hear you're now the big boss of Amor Studio," she teased.
"Yep," I said, smiling. "And you're still the queen of social media and all things glamorous." saad ko na may halong pang-aasar.
She laughed. "Guilty as charged. So, what's new with you? Balita ko ilang months ka na ring nagpapaka-busy."
I hesitated for a moment, then said, "Just the usual. Meetings, projects, and all that. But enough about me. How's the wedding planning going?"
Lux's eyes lit up. "It's going great, actually. You know how it is, though. So many details to handle. Nagkaroon pa kami ng problem nung fiancé ko, but we managed to work things out." Napatango-tango naman ako.
We arrived at a cozy café near the airport. I parked and we both got out, making our way to a quiet corner inside. The café was a perfect mix of modern and rustic, with soft lighting and comfy chairs.
"Let's sit here," I suggested, pointing to a table by the window. We settled in, and a waiter quickly brought us menus.
"So, what's the latest gossip?" Lux asked, leaning in with a mischievous grin.
I chuckled. "Not much, really. Though I did have a rather.. interesting encounter a few months ago."
"Oh?" Lux's interest was caught. "Do tell."
I hesitated, not wanting to dive into the details of Yoko just yet. "Let's just say it was an unforgettable experience. Pero enough about me. Magkwento ka about your upcoming wedding. I want to hear ALL about it."
Lux launched into a detailed description of her upcoming wedding, the venue, the guest list, and all the intricate plans she had in mind. I listened, genuinely interested, but my thoughts kept drifting back to Yoko.
Hay, Faye.
"So, when's the big day?" I asked, trying to refocus.
"It's in four months," Lux said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "I still can't believe it's finally happening, after all the crazy things that happened."
I smiled. "I'm sure it'll be amazing. But I have to admit, I'm a bit envious of how everything is coming together for you."
Lux raised an eyebrow. "Envious? Since kailan ka pa naging inggitera, Faye?" Natatawang saad nito.
"I guess since you started winning at everything," pagbibiro ko, playfully nudging her. "Pero seryoso, I'm happy for you."
We spent the next hour catching up, sharing stories, and enjoying our coffee. Lux was still as vibrant and competitive as ever, but there was a warmth to her that made it easy to fall back into our old bond.
As we finished our drinks, Lux leaned back in her chair and looked at me thoughtfully. "So, Faye, any update sa lovelife? Kanina mo pa iniiwasan 'tong question na 'to."
I almost choked on my coffee. "Lovelife? Not really. I've been too busy with work."
Syempre, joke lang. Ito ako, nagpapakabaliw sa isang babaeng malabong bumalik.
Lux raised an eyebrow. "Oh really? So no one special?"
I avoided her gaze, feeling a familiar pang of regret. "No one special at the moment."
Lux studied me for a moment, then nodded. "Alright. Well, if you ever need to talk or just need a distraction, alam mo na kung saan ako hahanapin."
I appreciated her offer. "Thanks, Lux. I might just take you up on that."
We finished up and headed out of the café. As we walked to the car, I couldn't shake the feeling that I had more to discuss with Lux, but I wasn't ready to dive into everything just yet.
"Are you coming back to the office with me?" I asked, trying to lighten the mood.
"Sure, bakit hindi?" Lux said, grinning. "I'd love to see what you've been up to."
Back at the office, Lux's presence was a refreshing change. She brought a lively energy that cut through the usual routine. We walked through the hallways, and I showed her around, catching up on the latest developments.
Nang makarating kami sa office, Lux looked around, impressed. "Wow, Faye. You really made it big. Naiintindihan ko na kung bakit ka palaging busy."
I laughed. "It's a lot of work, but it's worth it. Minsan, nakakapagod lang talaga."
Lux nodded. "I can imagine. But hey, you're doing great."
I appreciated her support. "Thanks, Lux. It means a lot."
Pinalipas namin ang buong hapon na nag-uusap habang ginagawa ko rin ang iba ko pang paperworks. Lux's visit was a welcome distraction, and for a moment, I was able to push aside the lingering thoughts of Yoko.
As the day wound down, Lux prepared to leave. "Mauuna na ako," she said, standing up. "But let's not wait too long for our next catch-up. Maybe mag bonding tayo after ng work kapag free ka ulit?"
"Definitely," I agreed. "Hatid na kita," saad ko pero pinigilan n'ya ako. "Huwag na, I called my driver and nandito na s'ya."
"Samahan nalang kita sa labas." Umiling naman s'ya. "Tapusin mo nalang 'yan," she said and smiled.
She gave me a warm hug. "Take care, Faye."
I watched as Lux left the office, feeling a mix of relief and anticipation. Her visit had been a much-needed break, but as I returned to my desk, I couldn't help but wonder how long it would take to finally move past my feelings for Yoko.
