6. orientation

a nervous yunho started heading down towards the school parking lot. his palms sweaty and steps hesitant. the thought of hanging out with mingi alone made him anxious and somewhat excited. he still had to go to his first class so he told mingi to pick him up right after.

as he exited the high school, he saw a black bmw parked right in the front lane. the luxurious car was a beauty without a doubt, yunho could only dream of owning one some day. he then started looking for mingi. he hoped he was already there since they had to be at the university in less than 30 minutes. after waiting around for a while, the thought of being stood up crossed his mind until the car from before started driving towards him.

the window from the passenger seat was lowered slowly and yunho could see mingi peaking out of it, patiently signaling for yunho to get in. yunho couldn't believe it but he carefully got inside the car.

out of nowhere, mingi leaned in and yunho started panicking. he put his hands on the younger's chest trying to get him to back away, feeling again his toned muscles. mingi started up at yunho, confused and his face red from the other's touch.

"yunho what are you doing?!"

"no what are you doing? why are you trying to kiss me?!"

"wh-what?!! i was trying to put on your seatbelt! why would i ever kiss you?"

the tone of mingi's voice made yunho's heart ache. yeah, the both would never do that but why did he say it like that.

"sorry, i guess i misunderstood" yunho said quietly as he put on his seatbelt. his mood had clearly changed from nervous to hurt and offended and mingi seemed to notice that.

"is everything okay?"

"yeah, you should probably start driving or we're gonna be late"

mingi nodded slightly and started to drive off. the ride was silent and the tension in the air only made them more awkward than how they used to be. right when they arrived to the campus, mingi wanted to talk to yunho but he had already left the car without a sound. he stepped out of the car rapidly trying to catch up with him and when he did he grabbed him by the shoulder.

"yunho! i thought you said everything was ok, why are you so quiet?"

yunho took mingi's hand and pulled it off his shoulder. "it's nothing mingi, we should get going."

they got to the student services office and met with the person who was doing the orientation. he was a year older than the two boys, although his pettite figure made him look way younger than them.

"hi you guys! my name is hongjoong and i'm a student leader at yonsei!"

the two couldn't help but smile at hongjoong's contagious energy. they introduced themselves and started off with the tour.

"i noticed you guys were the only ones scheduled for today's orientation and it lowkey made me happy i didn't have to deal with so much people"

"it must be tough huh? i'm also a leader at my school, i'm the basketball team captian and it's not easy at all"

yunho scoffed quietly, now he remembered why he hated mingi. being the captain of the team wasn't even that bad, he just wanted the attention and praise.

"oh really? you play basketball? i've always wanted to try but i'm not too good with anything sport related" hongjoong stroke his neck in embarrassment but looked up when he heard yunho and mingi giggling.

"yeah we figured" yunho said in a playful tone.

"oh shut up!" the shorter huffed at their joke yet he couldn't help but laugh a little bit. they seemed fun to be around with and he hoped they become friends next year.
