"The second term starts today," Chabashira announced, stood at the front of their classroom. Summer break had finally come to an end; after facing not one but two special tests, they were finally back in school. "From the month of September through early October, we'll have more gym classes than usual, in preparation for the upcoming sports festival. I've given you your new schedules and the sports festival documentation." Y/N was already reading through it all, absorbing as much information as he could. You can find the same information on the school home page. Compare them if you must." He had already been considering that, anyway.
"Ma'am!" said Hirata, raising his hand before standing up and keeping his hands on the desk. "Is the sports festival one of our special tests?"
"You can interpret it that way if you wish," she smirked at him. "Though whatever you call it, it will have a major influence on your class."
"Heck yeah!" Pluto cheered, excited for this since he was one of the sporty ones. "Time for me to shine!"
"Sports festivals involve things like 100M, 200M and so on," Y/N thought as he recalled his two years of middle school. "One of my specialties, when it comes to physical abilities..."
"For this year's sport festival, the entire school will compete as Team Red or Team White," she explained, piquing Y/N's interest. This meant that it would involve their upperclassmen too; he'd have to compete against them as well. "You of Class D along with Class A will be Team Red."
"We're teamed up with Class A?" Yukimura asked in surprise, and the other members of the class seemed to be sharing similar feelings.
"So the most defective are teamed with the least defective, and those in the middle are teamed with each other," Y/N mentally noted. "That's how they make it fair, I suppose. A team of Class D and Class C, for example, would be fodder in comparison to a team of Class B and Class A, even if we didn't take into account our inability to cooperate with them."
"Along with second and third years..." another boy noted.
"Seems annoying," Matsushita commented, and Y/N partially agreed that having to work with people outside of his class was going to be a hassle. But at the same time, he didn't have to be as concerned about the team scores if Class A of every year was in their team.
"I'm gonna carry Team Red to the win!" Pluto declared determinedly, standing up with an arm raised. He was certainly excited for this, especially since for once he had the advantage and could help his class.
"Let's raise hands to speak, everyone," Hirata instructed, when the class broke off into murmurs of discussion, some people seeming to like the idea of the sports festival whereas others didn't or were just neutral about it all.
"Keep it down, guys!" said Kikyo, standing up a bit to get the message across, which seemed to have worked.
"First, read through your materials," Chabashira instructed, gaining their attention by tapping the stack of papers in her hand a few times.
"Events consist of mandatory and voluntary events," Hasebe read from the booklet in front of her.
"For the voluntary events, they seem to offer more points than the mandatory events," Y/N noted mentally, flicking through his own document of the sports festival.
"It's important to give all you have to every event," stated Chabashira. "The penalty for losing is severe." She was correct; coming in last for an individual event would result in a loss of 1000 private points or, in the case that a student somehow had less than that, a penalty would be applied to written exams.
