Once the short break was over, the next competition, being the cavalry battle, ran in reverse order. Consequently, the first-year girls' cavalry battle came first. It ran on a time limit, and the rules were the same for boys and girls. Points would be awarded based on the number of enemy units your team defeated, and how many allied units you had remaining. There were four horsemen to every cavalry unit.
Four students from every class were horsemen, which meant that it was an eight-on-eight battle. Each horseman was worth fifty points, with one of the four horsemen being given the role of 'general', making them worth 100 points. Y/N didn't really care about this competition; he was more so interested in watching Ichinose than anything else.
When the match started, Y/N noticed that Class C weren't going for Class A at all, and instead shot straight for Horikita, one of Class D's jockey, most likely because they were well aware of her injury and thus saw her as an easy target for points. In all honesty, this was a fair play, although a bit unsportsmanlike.
"They're just going after Horikita, aren't they, dude?!" Ike shouted indignantly, as Class A didn't even move to help, probably aiming to use them as bait to swoop in and get the points afterward.
"Damn. Ryuen probably ordered that. Scumbag!" growled Pluto, still agitated by Ryuen's actions across the sports festival. There was unfortunately nothing that could be done about it.
Karuizawa, another jockey, and her horsemen rushed over to Horikita's aid first, and Shinohara rushed over to support Karuizawa, only for Class B's general (and Y/N was now watching more intently than before), Ichinose, to block their path. Class B seemed to be supporting their allies, and thus had taken the opportunity to cut off all help for Horikita, so that they could slowly pick them off individually. Though, Ryuen might've just been targeting Horikita because it was Horikita.
"Ichinose's unit definitely has the advantage here," Y/N thought, staring at the specific individuals in each side's unit. The three girls supporting Karuizawa weren't athletic, and had only formed the unit with her for the sake of staying with their friends. On the other hand, Ichinose seemed to contain some of the best and most capable people in Class B, which was to be expected since she needed the best support as the general. Ichinose went for a direct attack, but her movements weren't sharp, allowing Karuizawa to dodge and launch a counterattack.
"Dude, this is an awesome game!" Ike said excitedly to Y/N, who nodded in agreement, his eyes fixed on Ichinose.
"Well, that's not good," Y/N commented, when he saw Horikita fall off of her unit dramatically and collapse to the ground, after being attacked by four horsemen simultaneously. Looking frustrated, she tried to get up, which was when Y/N noticed that her headband had been snatched.
Her loss had a sort of domino effect; it caused the rest of Class D to lose all of their coordination for some reason, and players were either falling off their horses or having their headbands snatched. It was an all-out melee, and unfortunately, the two other horsemen had their headbands snatched despite their best attempts to struggle, leaving only Karuizawa, who was literally in an eight-to-one fight. But somehow, at the very end, she managed to snatch a headband from a Class B horseman before hers was snatched right after. Ignoring the loss of a horsemen, the combined force of Class C and B attacked what remained of the Class A units and completely wiped them out. Their opponents had only lost a total of two horsemen, whereas they had lost all.
"Well done, Ichinose," he thought, letting a small smile slip onto his face when he spotted her triumphant smile.
"You look oddly happy, despite the fact we've suffered a great loss," Ayanokoji pointed out, already sounding like he knew why. "Well, whatever keeps your spirits up, I suppose. You are one of our most important players, after all."
