Chapter 13

"CAW CAW KAZUMA NAKAMURA NORTH WEST NORTH WEST CAW CAW MEN MISSING IN A VILLAGE CAW CAW!" Kenji flew to me and landed on my shoulder after saying that. I'm so happy I have my ear plugs in because Kenji yells a lot. I figured out recently that he is kinda deaf and can't hear well, that's why he yells out the missions a lot.

I nodded to him and he flew away right after. I started to run really fast to the destination which wasn't as far as I thought.

I saw some people out in the village but not a lot. It was mainly woman though, when I saw men in the area they would be with a woman.

I ask around the village about what's been happening there to try and get clues to where the demon is.

"Aren't you too young?" A person asked me, "What do you mean by that ma'am?" I asked her, "I mean, you shouldn't be alone doing this by yourself, you're too young to be doing dangerous stuff like this, and look at you, you should be taking care of your family or something? stop wasting your time." the look on the woman's face looked like one of disgust or something, "Either way how are you going to solve a problem like this. Go home." The woman turned away and started to walk somewhere else.

I've experienced stuff like this before. People always looked at me weirdly or underestimated me. It didn't hurt but it was always made me remember.

Is it because I'm not like people my age? Taking care of my family and maybe planning on being sent off by my parents to get married. I highly doubt the last part though but I had heard stories.

I turn and walk away to talk to more people and ask them questions.

-time skip-

After asking more questions for a while and being questioned myself, I finally know where to demon might be.

I walk to a dark alley way and enter it. It reeked of alcohol in here for some reason. Were the men that went missing drunk or some shit?

I close my nose and continue walking. I unsheathe my sword just in case of an unexpected attack.

"Waah... waah..." I heard crying from a woman further ahead. That's weird. Why is someone here late at night.

I walk towards the voice and I grip my sword tightly. If anything that voice can be of a demon. Maybe that's what attracts men to getting killed.

The voice stopped and I stood at the end of the alleyway confused.

I suddenly felt a tug on my arm. There was a vine around it. I rip my arm out of the vine that was connected to the ground.

Then both my legs and arms were connected to the ground.

"Well well let's see what my snack tonight will be tonight... A girl?" I turn my head to see a young female demon with vines attached to her back, "Whatever I'll just kill you I don't even eat girls." The woman looks down to the hand holding my sword, "So you're a Demon Slayer huh? I've seen quite a few before, they were all weak."

I rip both my hands and legs out of the vines and I look at her, "I wouldn't say that about me though." I told, " What do you mean by..." right in the middle of her sentence I disappear and get behind her.

Snow Breathing 1st form: Blizzard

While behind her my sword went to its extended stay and I did a horizontal slash to her neck cutting it off smoothly.

"Fuck! You're just a kid! How can you be strong enough to kill me!?" The woman yells at me, "You're just a weak demon of course you were easy to kill that's all. Also you don't even have a demon art how sad." I told her back by then her head already disintegrated.

I guess my mission is done. I should inform the village people or something.

Leaving the alleyway I see a few people and I tell them what happened, "Bullshit. How should we believe a kid like you that demons exist!?" It was the same woman from earlier when I asked people questions, "Ma'am why did the people disappeared then? They can't have been kidnapped easily." I told her back. She stomps and slapped my face, "THEN WHY THE FUCK WERENT YOU ABLE TO SAVE MY SON!"

Some people tried to pull her away from me but she just kept on trying to kick at me. I was still speechless that she slapped me and I held my cheek.

It stings.

I heard screaming from the woman and some people gathered around me and asked if I was okay. I didn't respond and just looked at the woman. She's really mad, she must have been so sad when her son disappeared.

"Sigh..." I removed my hand from my cheek and bowed to her, "I'm sorry I wasn't able to come in time to save your son. It's my fault Ma'am." Some people tried to tell me it wasn't necessary to apologize but I did really feel bad for not being able to help sooner.

I feel so useless.

The woman previously screaming just stopped and looked down at me, "Sigh... I'm sorry as well I guess. Stand up will ya?" The woman said. I stood up and looked at her, "You're too young to be doing this stuff. Why don't you have fun and be with other kids or something?" She told me before turning her back and walking away.

I watch her walking away, my face was just plain. I felt like crying but I'm not able to. Either way, I don't want to cry.

-Time Skip-

I'm walking back to the headquarters and my crow flew up to me, "Caw! Kyojuro Rengoku was killed by Upper Moon 3 of the twelve kizuki!"

What... that can't be real. It was just a small mission right?

I take out the case Kyojuro gave me with my ear plugs in it.

I never got to repay him... I broke my promise. Again.

-This is the second time Kazuma broke a promise because someone died.
