The cursed spirit that haunted you from the very moment you received that manga... was here to protect you?
"That's..."
That's some bullshit, you wanted to say.
But it was the only explanation that made sense.
With how much you wished for the computer to be safe, look at it now—it was the only place in your messed up room that hadn't been destroyed. And that box of manga was in tiptop shape too.
Was it ever angry at you when it appeared in your room? The only time it seemed like that was when it saw Geto. Aside from that, there was nothing else that happened; just you avoiding it, and you trying to not let it come near you.
Which, it never did. Not even once.
It always stayed there, by the box that you vowed not to touch again even as you pulled some volumes out with fear. It didn't even speak your name nor muttered anything unless it noticed you looking at it directly, and oh no.
The implications slowly washed over.
"I knew there was something weird about you," Gojo took off his sunglasses and pointed it at the now less agitated spirit. "See how it's not movin' around anymore when I stepped to the side and let it see you? It probably has some sort of attachment to the sight of you... or to you, directly."
"What the fuck," you cried.
"Accurate reaction." Gojo snorted. He placed his sunglasses back to cover his eyes and said, "It's either that, or you've been imposed with a contractual bind that connects you with this spirit cause if it's none of that, seeing it would be nearly impossible. Your cursed energy is so low, it almost feels like your body is trying to blend into the world until you fade into it. Like you're a feint."
That word rang loudly in your head. 'Despite lacking any discernible cursed energy or extraordinary abilities, Satoru sensed an underlying uniqueness in the non-sorcerer. He was intrigued by their presence, noting that their normalcy seemed like a feint.'
So that's what he meant...
"But there is another possibility," Gojo continued, "Ever heard of binding vows or heavenly restrictions?"
Yes. In fact, you knew a lot about both of them since you've read the manga, but you are—or were—a non-sorcerer who shouldn't know about such a thing, so you settled on the best answer:
You gave him a blank stare.
Geto raised a hand to his chin, one of his fingers touching his lips to soften his words. "Binding vows... I've heard of those before. They're contracts that sorcerers can make to increase their power. It's usually done by exchanging something significant in return for the abilities you asked for. Simply put, it's the pinnacle of being a sorcerer, aside from cursed techniques and cursed energy."
"Yep! Wow, can't believe you actually listen to old man Yaga's explanation. That's a word-for-word copy of what he said a few months ago. You sure you aren't plagiarizing him or somethin'?"
An irk appeared on Geto's forehead. He was about to retort, but Gojo snapped his fingers.
"But there's another type of binding which you might not know yet. They're called heavenly restrictions. It's extremely rare since these aren't something you choose; they're given to you from the moment of your birth instead. That's why you won't hear much about this vow in our history of jujutsu. There are very few, if none, documented cases about it throughout centuries."
Geto stared with eyes empty of thoughts, mouth slightly parted. You can almost hear the cogs in his brain turn off momentarily.
"So," Geto started, "you're saying that these restrictions can't be done at any moment of your life, cause you'll only get it once you are born? How does that even work?"
