You met Geto Suguru.
Geto.
Suguru.
From the manga, Jujutsu Kaisen.
You still can’t comprehend it even if you’re repeating it slowly in your head.
This is more than surreal. This is impossible. Maybe he’s a cosplayer? He looked so much like the young version drawn on him in that arc about Gojo’s past. And he had the same voice as well—you thought it sounded as sweet, if not even more, when he smiled at you yesterday.
Everything about his existence looked and felt real. The lint on his uniform, the skin of his face, and the way he bowed his head at you slightly when he walked out of the store. Everything about him screamed reality.
But there’s no way.
You already see ‘ghosts’ (curses?) and you doubt you’ll get any more unluckier by meeting a realistic version of that series’ characters.
Maybe this is just their way for you to watch the new season in the anime and catch up. An advertisement? From the studio? Or from the fans?
Yeah, you won’t fall for that. You had enough on your plate of surviving and trying to get through the day without any of these curses killing you, so if you end up thinking that everything is a miracle and that these characters actually exist…
Then you will really lose your mind.
Can’t the world give you problems one at a time? You were just happy yesterday. You were able to rest for a moment, but something else apparently lurked from that happiness. Something that loomed like a veil of danger to you, both literally and figuratively.
“Fuck. I need to catch up with the story. Now.”
You crawled on your bed, hurriedly grabbing the new volume that you borrowed from one of your classmates. Unlike the one that Geto touched, the one you held was still titled the same as it should have been: Jujutsu Kaisen. The old volume cover never changed either.
The first thing you did when you got home was walk to your computer and search the title ‘Jujutsu: The Way of Fighting’, and you found nothing, except a list of links that led to Jujutsu Kaisen.
You didn’t care if there was still a ghost (curse! Damnit, it’s a curse) waiting for you to sleep on the bed again so it could rest on your chest. You were busy researching everything about the franchise and the new series that replaced it.
But nothing changed.
The new series didn’t exist, and the old series was still… there. With people talking about it. With people still posting about it.
Halfway reading into the new volume, a bright idea came to your mind.
You reached for your phone to call up your classmate.
This manga volume was from them, right? Maybe they’d be able to help you out if you just try and tell them what’s happening.
Surely they won’t judge you or think you’re out of your mind once you hint that you’d been seeing ghosts for years, and that you possibly met one of the characters from Jujutsu Kaisen. Surely they’ll be nice to you.
“[Hello?]”
“Hey, strange question. Don’t get weirded out. But did something… unusual happen today?” You fired off immediately when they answered. “Like, maybe a lot of accidents? A… massacre or something?”
“[Woah. Do you need help hiding the bodies?]”
“What? No,” you sputtered, flustered at how they easily said that when you two weren’t that close to each other. “I’m just wondering if you heard of something. You like listening to the news ever since the Shibuya Incident was broadcasted on TV, don’t you?”
