one year.
one year since walker and i had started dating. well, officially started dating.
not a lot had really changed, if you thinkt about it. we already did all the couple stuff when we were 'just friends'--which when you think back on it is kind of weird, but it's whatever.
our first date had been a few days after we became boyfriend and girlfriend, because although our schedules were super packed, walker insisted on it.
and even though walker wanted to plan it out all by himself, he still wasn't sure what to do, so we ended up going to an ice-cream shop.
"'the creamery' . . . ?" i read the sign that was on the building, and looked over at a walker with a brow raised.
"trust me, i know. but it had 4.9 stars on google maps." walker justified his choice with a shrug, and i laughed.
we both walked in to the place, and i glanced down at his hand. me and him were really dating now . . . does this mean i would hold his hand? i mean, i held his hand all the time, how was this any different?
i stared at his hand for a while, until we walked up to the counter, and were able to put in our orders.
"welcome in, what would you two like today? oh wait, you two are walker scobell and y/n l/n! my little sister loves you guys. are you two out on a date?" the worker's eyes widened when they had realized who they were talking to.
"haha, yeah, we are." walker said, somehow managing to not get awkward--which was good, because that definitely wasn't my strong suit. at the same time, he intertwined his fingers with mine, which made my face go hot.
"try to keep it a secret?" walker added indiscreetly.
the worker nodded, "of course. what would you two like?"
me and walker got our ice cream, and then sat down. we aimed for the back of the building, because on a date in our fake-dating, we had made the mistake of sitting next to a window, and there was about a billion photos the next day.
he had gotten a cone, and i had gotten mine in a cup. we had gone quiet by now, not saying a lot. it was sort of obvious that neither of us really new how to act.
"so, uh-"
"i-"
we both blinked.
"you first."
"you first."
we chuckled awkwardly, and i put my focus back on my ice cream, poking it with my spoon.
after a moment, i looked back up. "this doesn't have to be weird, right? i mean, nothings changing. it's the same as always."
"yeah. it's only weird if we make it weird." walker agrees, and i nod.
"it's just a label. boyfriend and girlfriend," knowing that those words applied to me and walker put a feeling in my stomach, but i ignored it. "but we're the same"
