Billie's pov...!

"Drive safe, love you" she replied and hung up leaving me unable to answer.

"She just hung up on me" I murmured to myself.

"What, honey?" my mom asked, glancing up from her phone.

"She said 'love you' and then hung up" I chuckled, amused "we haven't said it yet, so I'm pretty sure she's freaking out right now" I shook my head, then opened my messages.

"Open the door" I said laughing.

Is the third time I knocked the door and she keeps telling me she's 'not here'.

"Baby, come on, someone might recognize me out here" I called out, knocking again, my tone half-playful, half-serious. A moment later, I finally heard the sound of the door unlocking.

She opened it, half-hiding her face behind one hand, giving me a quick peek before dashing inside like she was escaping something.

I quickly shut the door behind me before reaching her in a few quick steps, sliding my arm around her waist and drawing her in close. With a playful smile, I gently took hold of the hand she was using to cover her face, lowering it to reveal her eyes.

"Hey" I said softly "it's me"

She stayed silent, her eyes speaking the words she was too embarrassed to say out loud.

"Now, go ahead and repeat what you said earlier. I didn't hear you properly" I teased, but she wriggled out of my grasp.

"I hate you" she muttered, turning her back to me and heading towards her room.

I chuckled, catching up and following her with a grin "that's not what you said"

As she reached her room, I leaned against the doorframe, still smiling "come on, what did you really say?"

"You're so annoying" she sighed as she tidied up her desk.

"Yeah, but you love it" I chuckled, stepping into the room and gently closing the door behind me. She rolled her eyes, though I could see the amusement in them.

"I still hate you" she said, but there was a hint of a smile in her voice.

"Uh-huh" I said, stepping closer "but we both know that's not true"

"Whatever helps you sleep at night" she shook her head, trying to hide her grin.

"Say it" I whispered as I brushed a stray lock of hair from her face.

Her eyes locked with mine, a mix of vulnerability and affection in her gaze "I love you" she murmured, her voice soft and barely audible.

"Yeah?" I asked, my heart racing as I brushed another lock of hair from her face, letting my hand rest on her cheek "yeah" she replied, biting her lip and looking at me with a mixture of hope and nervousness.
