Even though The Colony had become completely independent from Earth and its inhabitants for hundreds of years they had followed their inhumane orders to a T. Pairs were cycled through, and their offspring marked. It was rare to find a non pregnant woman in the colony even in the present day. Incestous relationships were the biggest concern for the people, if any deformities and or disabilities were to arise from their ever developing community it was to be dealt with immediately. Even infectious diseases were treated the same, death was their only option for a long time. However once the population was deemed stable enough the colonists were able to finally detached themselves from primary orders established hundreds of years ago.
Eventually planet Earth seemed more of a fairy tail to the younger generations. A story of broken promises and shattered dreams. The homeland that turned their backs on them. Whispered to babes during the coldest of dust storms to warn the younglings of two faced beings. A fairy tale world free of hunger and poverty where one could have as many clothes and shoes as they wished. A place where white was always pristine and crisp free of red sand and brown dust. Free fresh air paired with the clearest water ever seen. A world free of the pains of hard labor and sleepless nights. These daydreams mumbled to each other endlessly among the stars, keeping the colonists in ignorant bliss as they slowly worked their way back to their home planet, Earth.
Humans are resourceful and hardy beings at the expense of someone or something. Planet Earth was slaughtered by its own inhabitants. Thankfully, being the ever clever beings, humans had plans in place for the inevitable end. Plan A, colonize a nearby planet. Plan B, find a hospitable planet similar to Earth. Unbeknownst to the people on Earth both plans had worked, humans had voyaged to a faraway galaxy that contained multiple hospitable planets. Far more impressive was the successful colonization of Mars, a cold sandy world with little to no survival rate. With little to no faith the humans of earth were not patient enough to continue the slow process of populating Mars and even though the residents of Mars remained abandoned for thousands of years they persevered against all odds.
While the voyagers of Earth continued to make scientific and technological advances the residents of Mars became stunted with their few resources. Leading them to venture back to their old planet as scavengers. Whilst the voyagers decided to return to Earth for an update on the planet's state. The back and forth between the two groups would eventually lead them to cross paths and rediscover one another.
He was insatiable, a man that did not acknowledge the disbandment of the population programming which occurred a few years ago. Many men his age held resentment at the recent development within the colony. For months he had pestered her and many other women over their "unfulfilled" duties. At first it seemed that he only cared for spreading his seed. Many of the renowned scavengers believed that the programming should have never been disbanded. Their thoughts being old as time, they were the providers of scrap and new discoveries for their communities the least the women could do is give them a warm place to insert their seed. This belief was becoming more popular with each moons rise resulting in an increased of sexual violence. A primitive crime that always followed humanity yet nothing had been done to address these crimes, after all the population had decreased to a measly five million after the Red Plague leaving the residents to re-evaluate their vote on the fairly new law. With newly installed fear of their ever dwindling population most residents pushed to increase the birth rate once more.
The woman had thanked the stars that this insistent man had not become physical yet. However; he rarely gave her time to herself. If he was not on the blue planet recycling and reusing humanities' forgotten treasure he was breathing down her neck.
The stalking became unbearable until she eventually left the base, something she had not done for about a year now.
Outside the warm tones were deceptive. The air was stale and always tasted metallic despite the rebreather she constantly wore inside and outside. Coarse dirt and ash always seemed to cover everything. Her ounce silver bodysuit quickly became covered in sand, a desaturated yellow, the same tone as her friend's hair. It reminded her of the sand from the blue planet, a small bike she kept hidden away full of micro plastics and dry khaki particles. While the sand from there could create glass, this slightly orange sand contains iron and other metallic materials.
