"Oona" that purring coupled with gentle claws which comb the hair out of my face told me it was Horus who stirred me awake. Without the helmet I was back to drinking him in completely. From his tone of "voice" to his body language I honed in on him completely. Horus was clearly still on edge, he never gave his back to Hoper during the night and continued throughout the morning with careful hostility. His goldenglare kept Hoper in his peripheral vision; his exposed bicep twitched whenever the human shuffled and shifted. Said male remained seated against the wall of the cave seemingly ignoring everyone around him. His eyes were closed, most likely still asleep. Finally I sat up and looked to my left where Asahid remained unconscious and uncovered. Zahad was tending to his severed hand.
Well- his once severed hand.
His brother had somehow miraculously reattached the stiff hand back, or was currently attempting to. A neon blue gel was glop onto Asahid forearm, fresh green blood pooled around lines etched at the nub. With an exasperated sigh Zahad yanked the hand off again to slash more lines at the bottom. He sprayed the arm with a small silver bottle that smelled strongly of disinfectant before adding the blue glue to the fresh wounds. I had to swallow my vomit as he smashed the hand to his brother's forearm, squishing it and turning it to reconnecting the severed limb. The method was a crude version of basic hand crafted ceramics, wetting and scratching at clay parts to better attach them.
I didn't turn away as he pressed the connecting flesh and watched as his finger stiffly responded with a weak twitch. It was discolored, swollen, and having slept so closely I could smell that it had already started to decay. Still as Zahad worked the hand continued to respond, seemingly appropriately, for he grabbed a pen sized laser from a small gray case and melted the flesh together. Lastly he banged the arm, carefully weaving the gray cloth in between his fingers all the way up to his elbow.
"Luna, you're awake." Zahad nodded at her acknowledging her staring.
"You don't seriously think it's going to work" she pointed at the arm.
"Although much time hassss passed, it should work. There's a fifty fffity chance it will." The red and green Yautja had placed most of the supplies away except for a gunmetal gray syringe gun he stabbed onto his thigh after disinfecting the area with the same small bottle he used on his brother. The woman flinched in surprise but could not look away as the vile at the end of the syringe filled with his green blood. The syringe glowed like a glowstick.
Changing the needle to a clean unused one I disinfected my brother's shoulder before injecting him with my blood. It was not a proper blood transfusion but a primitive way to boost his healing. Soon he will awaken and with Paya's will his flesh will mend.
"Luna, listen closely" the artificial voice took complete control making the woman lean closer with curiosity. "Asahid will awaken soon, be aware he does not take fondly to humans." His deep voice no longer struggled against the F and S, this artificial voice was cold paced well. No slurring or stretching of words. Even the tone was void of all emotion and his usual deep testosterone filled tone was almost comically pitch. Just a bit too high to be paired with his image.
"Will I be ok?" The woman scooted back closer to my sire and eyed my brother with painted fear over her wet face.
"Yessss, Sire will protect you. Asahid will not attack you iff you do not attack him. Do not use brother'sss equip- itemsss again." The dubbed clicked off returning to the half translation he seemed to prefer.
"Horus and you have not attacked me... you both have been protecting me. Why do you think he will hurt me?" The woman eyed the unused helmet beside the sleeping male.
The green pebbled man looked at his nightshaded brother. With a long sigh he decided to tell me a bit of his brother's past.
Zahad explained to the woman that his father and him were assigned to trail and investigate Sky voyagers, nomadic humans sponsored by their government to travel outside of their galaxy. If found to be doing unethical and immoral activities, as they have been commonly known for, they were to be promptly punished as well as rescue any potential victims. Asahid on the other hand was assigned to relocating these victims to a rehabilitation center where they could recover, recuperate, and release them. The smallest male carefully relayed the struggles his brother had witnessed. His usual patient and pensive brother became more aggravated with his task. He began stating that humans were nothing but dishonorable beings. Lowly life forms that will not hold themselves accountable and take no responsibility for their mistakes. These insulting comments had seemingly reached their peak before they were assigned their current rescue mission. Privately his brother had hissed out that the humans he had relocated have just off themselves or were recruited by the very same company that helped destroy not only their lives but countless others. Asahid believed that their rescue missions were wasted effort and time. Asahid began stating that the humans should save them the trouble and off themselves faster.
