"Sa ah- Sajaahd? No Zahad... sorry..."
"U"
"U!"
"Id"
"E"
"Uid"
"Eu... id?"
"Zahad'uid"
"Zahuid"
"Wrong again. Close human."
"Ugh! Why is your name so hard to pronounce!"
"We are .... easier the name to your language. For your tongue."
"So that's not even how it's said in your language?"
"No."
"What about Horus? What's his name?"
"My sire iss no name longer." The young Yautja was leading the duo to a cave system a few miles away. There inside the canyon wall filled with caves is where his elder brother remained resting. It took him days to clear the developing hive that housed kainde amedha. As he thought back on it now he began brimming with pride at the thought of showing his sire how strong he's become. "I'm bloodied. Lowest. Name only for now."
"I don't understand" Luna has been spending the majority of the trip chatting away with my offspring. Even when I attempted to carry her she brushed me off to walk next to Zahad'uid. Her senseless chatter used to amuse me but now these chirps and hums spilling from her fleshy lips are probing at my ever growing headache.
"Sire," my youngest offspring gestured behind them towards me. "No name longer, now he is title."
"What? So he doesn't have a name anymore? He is referred to by his title, huh." I was stumped by this revelation but Zahad'uid nodded eagerly. His gurgling chirps gave away his happiness whenever I figured out what he meant. Although much larger than me he was like an overly energetic child. Giddiness overwhelmed him whenever we surpassed a language barrier. His curious nature reminded me of home, back when I used to have to shoo away a couple of preteens who liked to sneak into the archive office after hours.
"Yesss. Sire saysss he wants your name. You not use title. Use nickel name? Nick name..." the young martian translated for the eldest, his excitement making him rush out the words more than usual.
"Oh ok... By the way, where are we going?"
"House. Safety."
"You live here? Is this your home planet?"
"No. Cavern. B... brother," he mumbled with uncertainty paired with a tilt of his head.
"Brother? Does that hand..." the woman pointed towards Horus's hip which still had the appendage swaying with every step he took , their gazes tracking its slow rhythm.
"Asahid, older brother" his green hide tense as he flexed; a guarded posture overtook him straightening his back. The young male began marching ever so quickly back to the end of the cave that hid his unconscious brother.
"Asahid, he was the other one I saw before? The tall lanky one?"
"Asahid, yesss... Not lanky? No say to Asahid. Danger you."
The female laughed as the tension slowly dissipated. With a tender pat on the back courtesy of Zahad'uid they continue marching onward.
Outside the forest was tall grass that stretched till it reached the tall wall of the canyon which was riddled with caves. The grassy plain was bare except for the occasional rock formations jutting from the green lush ground.
