Becca POV
My first day at the hospital was good.
Busy.
But good.
Grey loved the nursery! She didn't want to leave me when I dropped her off this morning before the start of my shift, and when I came to pick her up afterward, she didn't want to leave. This girl. She can't make up her mind if she wants to stay or go. Parker handed me a few brochures last night for mommy and me classes and mom groups that we're going check out on our days off this week. He's called all of them, and only two have issues with 'a man' joining because the classes are for 'mommy'. We signed up for a swim class with Parker and Brody. Kai and Brody signed up for the cooking class with us, and they both signed up for the art class with Brody with us. We had classes three nights a week, and thankfully the ED director worked my schedule around those classes. I needed to get out there and make some mom friends.
I was looking forward to our first one tomorrow. It's the swim class at our local YMCA. Kai told me last night that Bullet would like to send a prospect as a precaution since we don't know anyone there and they could be affiliated with any club. I reluctantly agreed because he said if turned down a prospect, it was probably going to mean Bullet was coming himself, defeating the purpose of the mommy and me time. Should I look for daddy-daughter classes for him?
No. What am I thinking? He can look that up if he wants to do it. He's not my responsibility. Oh god, I could totally face-palm myself for even thinking that! We have to start working on a schedule for him to come see Grey and for her to feel comfortable with him. How am I going to do that? I know Kai and Parker will be sounding boards, but they don't want to get in the middle of any of this. And who would? He's been a friend to Kai for years, and he's also a brother through the club. This is just a messy situation that I don't want them to have to struggle through.
"How was your day?" Doc asks as he walks out with Parker, myself, and the kids.
"Good! Feels good to be back in the old stomping grounds." Parker said enthusiastically.
"Eh. Saw a lot of people who still remember the incident from two years ago, but who also won't say anything," I said. Doc nodded, he'd stayed after everything that happened here with Parker's brother and my step-brother. I don't even want to think about how many people had questions for Doc after we left. Walking out, we put the kids in the car seats, heading home after a long 12-hour day. Thankfully the first week is all we need for training since we're returning employees.
Kai was pulling dinner out of the oven when we got home, "Which class do we have with the kids tomorrow?"
"Swim class. The four of us are going. It starts at two in the afternoon. Wednesday is the cooking class at 4:30 PM and Friday is the art class at the same time as Wednesday's class." I am looking forward to it. To all the classes. I can't wait to try out our new swimsuits. "I packed our diaper bag last night. Not going to lie, I'm super excited." I was bouncing on the balls of my feet, clapping my hands. Parker and Kai just laughed at me. These guys were great. I'm so happy to have them as my family.
Swim class went great, as did day two at work. Grey is adjusting to the nursery very well, and I'm happy to say that she doesn't have any issue leaving me now. But it's also a bittersweet moment because I want her to still want and need me. She's not even one yet!
She's so excited to go with her friends, and Brody that she jumps at the chance to play all day. I was ready and unsure what to expect from a mommy and me cooking and art class. I was hoping they'd have fun recipes and activities that Grey would be able to partake in.
People were filling into the classroom, and I saw a few familiar faces from swim class. Kai came in at the last minute with Brody, going up to the teacher to, I assume, explain as Parker had to do in the last class that he's part of a gay couple and they both want special bonding time with their boy, and they don't offer too many 'father-son' classes. It's sad, really.
