Hope Emily Nightingale
Over the past few months, Adamo visited his mother a few times. As time went by, the frequency of the visits gradually decreased. He hadn't gone to see her in about a month now.
Carmine was still in hiding. The last we heard from him was the threat he sent us a couple of months ago.
Alessio has been getting healthier and chubbier. Nino and I were going strong. Our little family was at peace. But until we found Carmine Remo and Nino couldn't completely relax.
Greta and Nevio have also been growing well. Greta loved her father so much, she spent most of her time awake in his arms. Nevio on the other hand loved causing trouble. His favourite word was 'No' and he used it for almost everything.
Savio was left in charge of Greta and Nevio even Remo and Serafina went on dates. Nevio's favourite pass time was to draw on Greta's hand with permanent marker. He calls his art "tadoos".
One night while we were all eating pizza in the gaming room, I got an unexpected call from Adamo. I had no idea why he was calling me instead of Remo or Nino, but I sensed something was wrong.
As soon as I answered, I heard his sobs. Remo and Nino looked at me as soon as I called out Adamo's name.
"I me-messed up." His voice broke.
"Why? What happened Adamo? Are you in trouble?"
"I let her out."
I froze but asked. "Let who out?"
"My mother. She started crying. I felt so sorry for her and I let her out. But she was only playing with me. She escaped and now i can't find her." How sobs got worse. "None of them will forgive me for this."
"Adamo, calm down. Get back home so we can talk this through. Your brother's love you, nothing will ever change that."
Remo and Nino grew tenser and tenser as the conversation went on. I tried convincing Adamo to come home but he refused and hung up.
"What's wrong, Hope." Remo asked.
"Your mother. She got out."
"That's not possible. Only one of us brothers can get her out." As Nino spoke realisation sinked in. "Adamo let her out."
Remo sprang up from his seat and punched the wall. Greta started crying. Serafina took Greta and Nevio upstairs. Alessio was fast asleep in Nino's arms and were not disturbed.
"She played with his emotions." I said, trying to calm Remo down. Nino although tense was composed.
"I knew it was a fucking terrible idea to let him see her." Remo yelled.
He's right. I'm also partially responsible for this happening. I encouraged Remo to let Adamo see his mother. Now everything was a disaster.
After both Nino and Remo packed necessary items, they went looking for their mother. Remo kissed Serafina goodbye and kissed Greta's and Nevio's forehead. Greta although not understanding what was going on, was devastated upon separation with Remo.
Nino kissed Alessio's cheek. He gave me a loving kiss on my forehead before kissing my lips.
"Come back to me, Nino. We're so close to happiness. Don't let that go. I'll be waiting here for you. I love you so much." I said, my eyes welling up
"I don't know what version of me will come back. But I'll always make it back to you, Hope. I love you."
I nodded. Giving him one last kiss, I bid him goodbye.
I had a terrible feeling in my gut. I really hope they'll come back safe. Both of our families were counting on it.
Adamo still hadn't returned home. Savio stayed behind to protect us. I suddenly felt a strong wave of nausea hit me. I ran to the nearest washroom. I threw up everything I ate. My legs became weak, so i kneeled down on the floor.
Serafina was quick to enter the washroom and shut the door. She brought a wet cloth and and wiped my mouth.
"Hope, when was your periods due?" Fina asked. Then realisation hit me. Oh no. This was the worst time for this to happen. Although I would be ecstatic of I was pregnant. There's still the whole threat from Carmine and protecting Alessio was difficult as it is.
"I'm a week late." I spoke softly.
