Tiana had been traveling aimlessly, keeping her head down and off the Bats’ radar. She had watched Babs long enough to have figured out how she tracked someone, allowing her to easily avoid cropping up when they tried to find her. If they tried to find her.She had been cautious, however, making sure to hop from place to place, but in each one, Tiana looked around in hope that something would connect her with it, that she could belong there, find something there. The hope was fading as she entered her second month of traveling. It didn’t help that no one back in Gotham had realised she was missing. It certainly did not silence that voice that always whispered that she wasn’t good enough. It was just another stab to the gut. The knowledge that she really wasn’t cared about enough to be noticed missing for two months.
The logical side of her mind, mixing with the small part of her that still ached to be cared about by the people she left in Gotham, rationalised that while Dick was in Gotham and not Bludhaven, he was with Damian, looking after the kid. Bruce was off world and Jason never cared, and if he did, he was off who knows where. Barbra and Stephanie were in Beijing and like every other time they were there, they did not concern themselves with anyone other then themselves. The non-tainted logical part of Tiana's brain countered with the fact that those in the manor should have realised. Alfred should have realised. Yet no one raised the alarm. It hurt as much as it wasn’t surprising.
Tiana had made it to France, catching the train from England through the ‘Chunnel’ and made her way from Calais to Paris, and had just stepped out into the streets.
Paris was beautiful.
Where Gotham was gothic and dark and the air filled with corruption, Paris was light and bright, the air easier to breathe. It was startlingly different, and Tiana wondered if she could really pretend to fit in here. Find somewhere to belong in the city of love despite being unloved all her life.
A loud sound pulled Tiana out of her thoughts and the hair on her arms rose as the entire city seemed to stop; the people around her halting mid step. It was then that she felt it. The air. Apprehension coated it and it was like everyone had stopped breathing.
Without thinking, Tiana fell into a relaxed stance and started assessing her surroundings. Instincts she developed in the Bat clan kicking in as the noise that came out of speakers scattered throughout the city ended.
Tiana watched mothers pull their children closer and people shift their bags or purses into a position that allowed for them to easily drop them.
Everyone waited, all looking ready to move at the slightest shift in the air. Traffic even slowing to a stop mid route to wherever they were going. There was silence in the middle of a city that was home to over two million people.
All of this in a matter of moments from when the noise first started until it stopped, allowing a pause before a voice was heard and seemed to echo through out the now noiseless city. Breaking a silence only heard before something devastating happened.
But Tiana had never seen anything like this.
“Magenta. Everyone please go to your closest akuma shelter immediately.”
Akuma? The Japanese word for demon?
Tiana didn’t have a moment longer to wonder what it was because people had dropped their bags, grabbed their children and started sprinting and she was swept in the tide. Fear was so stifling he could almost choak on it, the flood of it from all these people. Children seemed on the brink of tears, everyone was pale faced, Tiana heard muffled sobs from various people but there were no screams. None. Just silence as everyone ran as fast as they could. It was like they were all pushing their terror back. What the hell was going on here!?
