Ezra's POV

The International Supernatural Council was held in a different location every year.

This year, it would be in a resort owned by a pack in the north of the country. The resort was located in the middle of a mountainous forest. The closest human settlement was a small town a three hour drive away.

Sam, Haley and Jun stayed in a hotel in the closest city to the Coalition's headquarters. When the time came to save the Blood Child, either Orla or Orton will teleport there and go with them to the mission in order to teleport them out if anything went wrong. The thought that Orla would do that tied my stomach up in knots.

"This place is absolutely beautiful," Orla said, her breath fogging in the air.

Leaning against the balcony railing, her hair swayed in the freezing wind. The temperature at this altitude was low enough even for me, a werewolf, to feel the cold. Orla sniffed, her nose red, and turned her head to smile at me.

With the snow-capped mountains as a backdrop, her fiery hair and mismatched eyes, she looked straight out of a fairytale. My heart squeezed.

Walking behind her, I pulled her into my chest, making sure she wasn't a fragment of my imagination. "We'll come again in the summer. The weather will be more beautiful then."

Laughter drifted from the open balcony door behind us. Our suite had two bedrooms, one ours and the other Orton's. My parents and Orla's parents each had a suite on the same floor.

We decided to use our suite as a home base. Currently, that meant the living room hosted our ranks before the first event of the council took place; a customary luncheon attended by everyone involved.

Before that, however, we were due to meet with Alpha Blackrock. He was the owner of the resort, his pack the closest to our current location.

Orla's hands were beginning to go cold, so I tugged her inside the room and closed the balcony.

The couches in the living room were beige and auburn colors that complimented the warm vibe of the place, with log walls and a crackling fireplace.

Mom and Dad were out and about with uncle Zane- just Zane- and Eleanor, meeting up with attending Alphas from all over the world who wanted to have a word with the king before the Council began.

"By the way, how come all the staff we've met so far are supernaturals?" Orton asked, picking one of the chocolate truffles from the complimentary snacks on the coffee table. Orla plopped down next to her mom and immediately attacked the chocolate box.

"Blackrock owns this place," Vlad said. "Well, his pack does."

Orton raised his brows, looking around the living room. "So he only hosts supernaturals here?"

"No. It's just for this one occasion. Otherwise, it's a normal resort with human staff," Hale replied, taking a hearty sip of his coffee.

Vanessa frowned. "I thought this was part of a famous hotel chain around the world."

"It is," Hale said.

"Damn," Vanessa mumbled.

"Supernaturals have hands in pretty much every single domain," Hale said. "From the biggest financial institutions and corporations to politics and even the army. It's necessary to make sure our secret stays a secret. It makes it easy to hide what we want to hide."
