"we're almost at 20k subs on youtube," mem-cho announced.
ruby, kotori and kana stared at her, not really amazed.
"huh... meh... that's it?" kana mumbled.
"we need to work even harder... that's still a long way from one million," said ruby.
"right?" kotori agreed.
"can't you give me some credit?!" the blonde exclaims. "that's 20 thousand people, you know!? and i was the one who did all the filming and editing!! don't you guys have anything good to say for all my efforts in promoting our channel!?"
"eh... but it's only 20k subs," muttered kana.
"do you not understand how impressive that number is? listen there are about 300k youtube channels from this country. out of these, 75% of them have less than 1000 subs. so you can see the majority of the channels are unmonetized. it's an exploitative society where only the top few percent monopolizes the majority of the wealth, that would even make a feudal society look good!" mem-cho lectured.
"having 20k subs means we have made it into the top 10%! you need to understand how impressive this feat is," she continued. "and yet you kids went on and on about wanting a million subs. that's practically the top 0.1%, an insurmountable wall to climb!! that's a peak you can only reach by climbing over countless corpses!"
"but didn't we hit a few hundred thousand yen in income this month?" kana questions. "after deducting the agency's cut as well as the salaries of the video editors... what each of u receive is practically pocket change, isn't it? wouldn't working part-time somewhere else pay better?"
"that's how it is now... this is how it'll be til we become more popular," said mem-cho. "as it is, b-komachi's finances are in shames. we've got to do what we've got to do."
"and so, i'll make a room tour video!" she exclaims.
"room tour video!?" the other three shouted.
"isn't that, you know... the kind where you show off your own room..." kana muttered.
