THIRD PERSON POV
three days had passed by in a blur, and soon, aera would be engaged with her brother's best friend. as unbelievable as that sounds, it is the truth; one that aera likes and dislikes at the same time.
the two families had decided the venue to be sunghoon's family mansion in jeju island. it was a five storey space in a remote area, that was accompanied by a large garden, a lake, a horseback riding track and a remarkable traditional wine bar.
all the families had flew to jeju from seoul yesterday, arriving at around midnight. most of them had quickly gone to bed and slept, not wanting to seem tired on the big day. and so did aera after entering her room on the fourth floor, that happened to be just beside sunghoon's.
aera had woken up quite early today, the tension surrounding her own engagement day not letting her sleep. to get rid of the anxiety that was coursing her veins, she decided to binge watch the two parts of 'harry potter and the deathly hollows'. aera was undeniably the biggest harry potter enthusiast since she was a child. she had repeatedly watched the movies so many times that even after reaching adulthood, she sometimes felt like magic was real. and as dumb as that sounds, it was a pretty noticeable part of her interests, and everyone knew.
aera was never a silent child, she used to talk about her interests to any person she knew or a new friend she made, which had once led jaeyun to even tape her mouth and lock her inside his room as, according to him, she was spouting nonsense about how she was sure that she could survive as percy jackson's friend, and potentially even protect him. though, jaeyun had been grounded for a week as his mom was on the verge of fainting after she discovered that her son had taped his own sister's mouth.
a soft knock on her door interrupted aera on her movie marathon session, as she got up and opened it, her mom and jeemin bursting in.
"you've been watching tv all this time?!" mrs.sim scolded her daughter as soon as she spotted the tv was switched on.
"oh, leave it, aunty! we need to prepare her, she looks like a zombie." jeemin gasped dramatically, as aera hit her elbow.
"you're right. if she goes to the party looking like this, sunghoon might just run away thinking it's some ugly ghost." mrs.sim sighed.
"mom!" aera complained before her mother pushed her inside the bathroom and ordered her to take a bath.
aera complied and shut the bathroom door behind her, taking a quick bath. after getting out of the bathtub, she dried herself with a towel and wore a bathrobe. she dried her hair, applying moisturizing gel, lip balm and some hair serum afterwards. she made her way out of the bathroom after rubbing a decent amount of jasmine scented oil on her wrists and dabbing them softly on her neck and collarbone.
jeemin got up from her bed as soon as she saw her best friend. "the makeup artist is waiting just outside the door. should i call them in?"
aera nodded before jeemin went outside to inform her friend's hired makeup artist.
"hello, ms.sim. i'm, jina, your makeup artist for today." the woman bowed as aera smiled at her.
"hi! please call me aera." the girl bowed back.
"sure, take a seat please and we'll begin." the makeup artist couldn't help but let out a genuine smile at aera's polite and bubbly behaviour, as she was pleasantly surprised at her sweet and humble nature, despite being from a chaebol family and a well-known social media influencer herself.
aera did as she was told, and the woman began working. the look that they were going for was mainly based on the soft shades of pink and brown, as her gown was baby pink in colour. she curled her wavy long brown hair and kept it open, the length reaching until her waist.
after about an hour, the makeup artist had finished styling her hair and makeup.
aera wore the off-shoulder gown carefully so that her makeup would not somehow get any smudges. after adorning her ear with small pearl earrings and pairing it off with a pearl necklace and bracelet, she looked her herself in the mirror.
at that moment, her friends and her mother entered the room.
aera's mom couldn't help but shed a few happy tears, seeing her daughter in her engagement gown.
"oh my, my best friend looks so gorgeous!" jeemin rushed to aera, giving her a big bear hug.
"can i marry you instead of my brother, please?" minju sighed, as jiwoo and yunah couldn't help but laugh at her dramatic tone.
"you know, this is why i love women." koko joked playfully.
"guys, i love you so damn much oh my god." aera said, genuinely grateful for having such great and supportive friends, as she pulled them all in a group hug.
aera then looked her mother's tear filled eyes, as she felt herself getting emotional.
"don't cry! it'll ruin your makeup. the ceremony's gonna start any minute now!" but despite being warned by her mother, aera couldn't help but shed one or two tears nonetheless.
jaeyun entered his sister's room to call her for the ceremony, only to be engulfed by a strange emotion. one he hadn't felt before. his heart suddenly clenched, reminding him of the loneliness that he would face once his sister would get married and leave her house.
he slowly put his newly found feelings aside as he ushered the girls and his mother out of the room towards the hall where the ceremony would be taking place.
