Ash sat up in bed. He rubbed his eyes and glanced around his room, trying to remind himself it was all a dream, which wasn't real. He's just in his room. Not in some endless tunnel that goes on forever with a hideous beast behind him running after him. He could see a crack of sunlight from the curtains blinding him.
Ash groans sits up and looks to the wall. He sat there for a good 15 minutes staring at the wall before getting up. He flattens his messy black hair before going out the door and downstairs to see his parents drinking coffee and chatting.
They looked clean and well-rested the complete opposite of Ash's pale face and dishevelled appearance. His mother looked up and cast a concerned glance his way as Ash picked up a bowl.
"Oh. Good morning, Aston..." His mother says as Ash pours some milk.
"Morning," Ash said before putting in his cereal. He placed the bowl down and got a metal spoon.
"How are you feeling, Aston?" She asked.
"Ash." He said.
"Sorry?" she asked confused.
"Ash," he repeated, rubbing his tired eyes. "I'm okay, just a rough night." His mother nodded, though the concern in her eyes remained as she watched him eat in silence.
As the day wore on, Ash couldn't focus on anything. The forest's whispers seemed to follow him, and he kept glancing nervously over his shoulder. He decided to walk to clear his head and get out of the house from his worried mother.
As Ash wandered through the town, the forest's oppressive presence seemed to cling to him, making every shadow and whisper feel like an echo of his nightmare. Each rustle and shadow made him flinch; his nerves frayed by the haunting memories of his midnight adventure.
