Around 3 weeks after the fact:

Every time you think you could begin to think about peace and quiet there's Kate, knocking on your door, yapping in your ear, hitting up your phone way too much. She must not have many friends...

By the fourth ring on your phone, you reluctantly pick it up, "Don't you have other people to bother?"

"No, wanna spar today?"

"Not really... but yeah fine we can spar today." You let your head fall back into the sofa behind you.

"Whose training room? I like mine better." Kate requested.

"Okay well then we can do yours." I reply slowly

Kate had moved into a new house since everything went down over the winter in her apartment - plus the fire.

The new one has this crazy creaking front door.

"Hey," She greeted but it was hard to hear over the actively squeaking door.

"Jesus, can't you get some wd-40?" You express.

"It's antique, I don't want to ruin her." Kate says letting you in.

"I promise caring for your property won't kill it." You scoff-laugh.

"You say that, but once Clint told me about termites in his farm and I don't want those..."

"Yeah dude," you hang your head in disbelief, "your ass is going to get termites if you don't replace that damn door."

"But it's so pretty." she drags out as you both walk to her brand-new training room, mirrors lining all but one wall that is hanging windows instead.

You just shake your head.

You drop your bag down on a bench, "What do you want to start with?"

"Boxing so I can beat you and tell you about all this new avengers stuff."

"Isn't that supposed to be confidential?" You asked, slightly shocked that she trusts you with that kind of shit.

"I tell you because you have nobody to tell." She says strapping up her gloves

"That is so wrong..." You reply doing the same.

"Yeah, I know Yelena, but I know you won't tell her because you're still too scared about all of this. Just shut up and listen to me talk."

"Are you ever not confident about what you say? You could be so wrong so often and nobody tells you because of your damn tone." You almost laugh, walking to meet her on the mat.

"I know I'm right; I definitely just clocked you bad." She laughs back.

"Yeah, whatever." You say fixating your stance.

Going from actually fighting Kate, as in intending to end her life and willing to take yours in the process - to sparring with her and letting her win is nearly surreal. Not in a magical way, it just never would have seemed like a possible outcome.
