10 - Best Friends

I had been in LA a few days and I was really getting homesick but I was also loving being with Scott.

Scott was getting the grill set up since he was having some friends over to meet me and we were having a barbecue.

"Do you think they'll like me?" I asked cutting up some veggies as Scott came in from the backyard. He leaned down and kissed my cheek.

"They'll love you. They hear me talk about you all the time and are dying to meet you." Scott said and I smiled.

"Well I'm just nervous. I want them to know in serious about being with you and having this relationship with you." I said and Scott nodded.

"Sweetie, they will know, don't be nervous." Scott said and I just half nodded.

He went back outside and I went back to prepping. I heard the doorbell.

"Scott! Door!" I yelled.

"Can you get it? The grill is giving me issues." He hollered back. I wiped my hands on a dish towel and headed to the door. I opened it to see 5 people standing there 3 girls and 2 guys.

"Hi, I'm Kacie, Scott's girlfriend. Come on in. He is outback having issues with the grill." I said as they walked in.

"Well Kacie it's nice to meet you I'm Jason." The guy in front introduced himself.

"Matt."

"Trina."

"Donna."

"Nicole."

They all introduced themselves and I smiled.

"Nice to meet all of you." I said as we walked to the backyard to hear Scott mumbling at the grill.

"Let me help." Matt walked over and started helping. I went back inside to get everything finished.

"Can I grab you guys anything to drink?" I asked everyone once I was done.

"Just bring out beers for everyone." Scott said and I nodded going to the fridge. I grabbed 7 beers, was a struggle but so we all had one. I handed everyone their drinks without so much as a thank you from anyone but I let it go.

Everyone was holding their side conversations and since I wasn't able to input anything in the conversations about surfing, snowboarding or nights out in LA I just went inside and started making myself busy.

**SCOTT POV**

"So that's the farm girl huh?" Donna asked and I rolled my eyes.

"Her name is Kacie, she has told you twice. Let it sink in Donna." I said.

Everyone huffed a laugh, "Scott man, it's just this is the girl you have gone on and on about leaving years ago and you were lucky enough to find her again so you bring her here." Jason said.

"Yeah because I wanted her to see LA, see the life, meet my friends." I said.

"Why though? You planning on proposing?" Trina giggled.

"What?! No! Just we are going to try the long distance thing and with that being said, I still want her to meet everyone. I know everyone in her life and she should know everyone in mine." I said.

"But I mean I guess I just don't get it. She isn't your type, very opposite." Jason said

I looked in at Kacie, she was really just trying to make herself busy, she didn't want to be outside with us

"Matt take over the grill." I said and walked inside. "Hey, you okay?" I asked walking in. Kacie looked up and nodded.

"Yeah just wanting to get everything ready to take out to the table." Kacie said.

"You should come out and join the conversations." I said.

"Which ones? The one about surfing, which I have never done. The one about snowboarding, went once and hated it. Or the one about how we aren't good for each other?" Kacie asked and I sighed hanging my head. "Yeah you guys weren't as quiet as you thought."

"Kacie they just have to get to know you and you staying in here doesnt help." I said.

"Fine..." Kacie said as I took her hand and walked outside with her.

**KACIE POV**

Things were silent and tense from the minute I walked outside until Donna spoke up.

"So Kacie, has Scott taken you out sightseeing yet?"

"Well not really sightseeing I guess, we have been around. He took me shopping the other day since the airline lost my luggage." I said.

"Oh damn, I had that happen once. You didn't pack any electronics in your bag did you?" Jason asked and I shook my head.

"No that was all in my carry on. It just sucks when you only have the clothes on your back and have to go spend money on a whole new wardrobe." I said with a small laugh.

"So the clothes you have on now, is that what you were wearing when you arrived? Or is it something you bought when when went shopping?" Nicole asked and I just looked at her.

"Is there a problem?" I asked.

"Come on Nicole..." Scott groaned.

"No im just wondering because you're in LA sweetie not the country bumpkin place you're used to. Dress like LA." Nicole said.

"So I should dress like you? A cheap slut." I said.

"Hey! Woah!" Scott yelled.

Jason and Matt were even trying to stop it. Donna and Trina laughed and Nicole was screaming at me.

"What the hell did you just say to me?!"

"You heard me! Don't insult someone unless you can handle it coming back!" I yelled my defense.

"I think everyone needs to calm down." Matt said.

"Nicole, you crossed a line and she had every right to defend herself." Jason continued his thought.

"And no offense but it's about time someone put Nicole in her place." Donna said and everyone agreed. Nicole stormed in the house and I looked at Scott. He sighed and rushed after Nicole.

I stood in shock.

"Don't worry about that. Scott doesn't like confrontation when Nicole is involved. She can talk a big game but deep down she has feelings." Jason said.

"Deep, deep, deep down." Donna said.

"Yeah well we all have feelings and she needed put in her place. Sorry I know she is a friend to all of you and I'm the new girl..."

"Friend? Who said she was a friend?" Matt asked.

"I just assumed..."

"Well I mean yeah she is in our friends group but Scott and Nicole dated shortly after he got back from Texas the first time and dated for 3 years. They were engaged at one point." Jason explained.

"Engaged?" I asked shocked.

"Jason..." Donna and Matt groaned.

Nicole and Scott came walking back out together, her arm linked in his and they were laughing. Scott noticed all of us just looking at them.

"What?" Scott asked.
