After Seetha left that night, I learned that me and Seetha were the only one who saw the paper as brown; no one else did, including Elango, and our college mate, Sanjay, who saw it in a video call.
So, Elango advised me not to dwell on it further. He said he would consult his cousin, who is pursuing her 'Quantum Computing and Quantum Information Science' which is a unique and prominent scientific course in Japan. Elango also suggested that I should ask Seetha to dispose that paper and not to mention it to anyone.
But when I was determined to tell her, she was absent for two days. On the third day, when she returned, I noticed she was deliberately mimicking a movie scene, following the path I had taken before the staffroom entrance. Her cheeks were flushed red. I sighed, stepped aside to let her pass, and she quickly darted inside like a gust of wind.
I shook my head and returned to my cabin after fetching my water bottle. And feeling a strong gaze on me, I looked up to see her standing outside my cabin, staring intently. I raised my brows, and she entered.
When I tried to calmly explain to her not to share anything with anyone and how I had felt her touch, she began weaving a story and asked for an answer to her proposal that day. She seemed more focused on her narrative than on understanding the significance of the magic paper.
Frustrated and angry, I began lashing out at her, not realizing the words I was using. I stopped only when she ran out of the cabin, and then I recalled my own words and sighed, placing my palm on my forehead.
Shit.
I felt guilty for using my words inappropriately and making her cry.
But I still wonder how someone can develop such strong feelings in just two days. How is that even possible? And on top of that, she's my student—how could she fall for her professor?
With these thoughts swirling in my mind, I felt that she needed to reconsider her feelings towards me. Yet, she seemed even more determined, which made me scratch my forehead in frustration, almost giving me a headache.
But, when she came back inside, I noticed her face was pale. And I couldn't see her eyes, which were cast down on my table, but I was sure she had been crying. I tried to explain things to her calmly,
"Seetha.."
But, she just left the cabin with her purse and the project report diary, not acknowledging me or giving me a single glance.
I felt something strange within myself as she walked away like that.
Her black eyes didn't even glance at me. It struck me that I had ruined her mood when she merely raised her hand in response to me while taking attendance for their class.
